Got a new G-Wagon...question

I hear like a slight clunk sound when i turn the steering wheel quickly right or left. I'm taking it to the dealer in a few days but I;m wondering if anyone here might know what it is?

Its the "Turn Warning" indicator...usually its the sound of tires hitting the curb or trashcans anytime a G-Class owner attempts a u-turn.

normal sound?

I have had a sound like that in all my g wagon. First one G400 ( 2004) cdi, next G500 (2006), G320CDI ( 2008) and on my G55AMG ( 2010)

did you ever look at the massive steering house? it's a normal sound of the "free" space in the pump and steering axle. I hope you don't do it too much when standing still you'll be needing front tires quickly!

Today I went driving on the beach and did 200km per hours! Nice jumps and a lot of fun in the dunes ( not that fast ofcourse) Did any of you ever took the trip to Graz in Ostria and visit the factory? I did and the mountain trip was really really cool! after this I wasn't affraid to drive fast in terrain.

There is a small shock absorber in the steering mechanism. Mine was a lot louder than a slight clunk. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced i for me under warranty...problem solved. I forget the actual name of the part though. It was either shock absorber or damper...not sure.

The hard part was getting the car to make the sound in front of the dealer. Every time i took the car in, the sound would disappear. Finally though, i managed to make it happen and all was fixed.

Its Called a Steering stabiliser / Damper.. or it could also be the Front Panhard Rod bushings... as they Get worn, and will cause some clunk and a bit of wander on rutted roadways... as will worn tie rod ends.. the steering boxes on these truck is very robust and very rarely is a source of concern..
