G55 tires size replacement

Wanted to know what size tires everyone replacing the tires on a G55 rim with. OEM is 285/55/18. Only the exact same tire (Yokohama) is available. All the Wheel works in my area do not even have this and said I can get it at Mercedes. I know I can put another size on there but one wheel works did not recommend it and another wheel works said he would only do OEM then when he didn't have any said 275/60/18 is ok (he thinks)
What kind of tires/sizes is are you putting on the G55 rims?
Just seems like there should be more options instead of the same loud tires!

There should be no issue replacing the stock 285/55R18 tires with 275/60R18 as the overall diameter increases by .65" so only a .323" difference going into the wheel well at full flex and little difference to your actual and shown mph. That said, it really would be wise to jack up a front wheel and then a rear wheel and check how tight the clearance is as you don't want to see a wheel come through your fender.

Also, the width is only 1 cam apart so there will be no issue with the tire being overly stretched over the rim even though the AMG rim is, iirc, 9.5" wide compared to the 500/550s 7.5 rim.

Now, take all of this with a grain of salt. The sizing info above is accurate but I myself run 285/55R18 (I replaced the 2011 19s at purchase for no cost for the pre-2010 AMG 18s to gain more sidewall for both ride quality and off roading).

Long story short; personally I'd stick with the stock sizing unless your lifting it.

Call Luke at Tirerackand see what he recommends. they are a sponsor. I'm surprised you feel the tires are noisy given the wonderful exhaust!

I replaced the Yokohama AVS/ST with their Advan S/T on my previous G55 and found them to be a quieter tire with better braking distance and less susceptibility to flat spots. Also, they handled some off-road driving decently.

Did you find them in thhe same size? The only thing I can find in 285/55/18 is the same OEM tires. Another tire company suggested 265/60/18

I had to special order them in that size...took about 6 weeks. I'm in Dubai, not the US. Perhaps they don't make them in that size any more? Try contacting Yokohama in the US directly and check if that size can be ordered...worth the effort.

There should be a tire size calculator on tire rack. If not, try 1010tire.com, a Canadian site, that has a flexible tire calculator and lists the brands available in winter performance and stud less winter tires including some that tire rack doesn't stock but are available and good choices. I like the Canadian reviews because they have on average extreme conditions. I use winter performance on my CL and stud less on my G for obvious reasons. In any case get a snowflake rated tire because the rubber is for cold. The regs in the states say the installer can go down one speed rating say H from V+. Dont let people fool you. I know many independent retailers refuse to put any wheel but a genuine AMG wheel on my CL so the tire thing is easy. If you stick with 18" you can use a narrower tire for snow and ice conditions, say from the stock 55 to a 60/65 as long as the wheel width range is recommended. The spec table for each tire Should tell you the actual tire's rim dimensions, remember they are flexible! Finally I went a slightly narrower stud less tire that had a bit greater diameter and had Comand adjusted through Service Mode to correct for the change. This is important because it not only interfaces with the Speedo but I think ESP and so on.

There are plenty

Where do you live, generally? Do you head to the mountains for skiing and have go through deep snow, or mostly highway driving?Put in the oem size in the calculator and 275/60, 265/60 and see what your choices are. There tons of winter tires of both types in the 265 size.
Where are wheel works located? Their calculator by model is lame and cya. Find an indie installer.

Anyone heard or Maxxis Marauder tires?

There are 2 options of tires I found for the g55 wheels. Pirelli scorpions or the Maxxis Marauders. Has anyone replaced their tires with any of these 2 brands?

Anybody try steel t1n sprinter wheels on a g55? I'm running AMG wheels on 285/60/18 Michelins, but thinking outside the box. A 16" x 6" wheel might give a very nice ride. If the steel wheel has a thinner wall than alu 16" wheels then perhaps it could clear the caliper? Time to measure. Or maybe bore out some Dodge Promaster steelies.

Sorry for the thread resurrection but how did the 285/60/18's do as a replacement?

Any rubbing of the tires at full lock?

Has anyone else used this size with success or did 275/60/18's work better?

Thanks in advance.
