Used G500 or G55, pro/cons????
Hi-
I use to own a 2005 G500 Grand Edition. I loved it, but sold it a few years ago. I'm now debating which to buy, a used G500 or a used G55. I am trying to see if the G55 is a bit of a contradiction as from what I hear it loses the off-road/all-weather capabilities with the engine tuning, wider tires, etc. I want to maintain the functionality of the G-Wagon for snow, rain and the occasional muddy field (G500), but I'm intrigued by the daily drive of a powerful G55.
So, please let me know your opinion on a few things:
1. Do you truly lose the rugged nature of the G500 with the G55?
2. Is there a way to counter that (i.e. snow tires)?
3. Is it worth getting the G55 at all...in other words, should a G500 be a G500 and buy a sports car for the thrill rides?
4. From what I can tell, there seems to be very little variation in the used G500 models by year. Is there a particular year that would be a cut-off for any kind of upgrades to the vehicle?
5. For the G55, it seems they made a quantum leap with the 2005> models cranking the HP up to 469+. Is this true? Is there a way to tune an older G55 to get the same effect?
6. I plan to keep either vehicle for a very long time. Any suggestions on maintenance or performance upgrades?
7. Any suggestions on cool accessories for either performance or off-road capabilities?
8. Anything to look out for in terms of mileage? I plan to drive this vehicle a lot and keep it for many, many miles, so is there a sweet-spot with mileage for pricing of the used cars? (i.e. does the price drop significantly after X thousand miles but that mileage really doesn't matter on this engine if you maintain it properly).
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Do you change the tires or use the recommended ones for the G55? I've heard that the wider tires are horrible for different conditions, especially snow...
Thanks.
Thanks.
