Questions about fiber optics and upgrading dashboard from 06 to 07

I am sure this topic has been covered a lot since 2007; however, I haven't been able to find 100% straight answer on the matter.

I am looking to retrofit the newer 2007 dash in my g55. I have heard that the 2002-2006 models had fiber optics and to convert them to the new setup is nearly impossible. are all of the wires fiber optic in the G, or only the ones that run to the head unit?

I want to order a touchscreen headunit; however, it only fits the 2007+ dashboard. are the dashboard dimensions the same for a retro fit?

would I be able to wire the new buttons for the AC/hazzard signals/etc. directly to the old wires or is there an issue with them as well?

I would imagine the newer and older g55s have the same Dash dimensions, so would it be possible to just mount new brackets inside for the new dash setup, replace those bottons and the wood trim as well as add a new aftermarket headunit? I just absolutely hate the screen in my benz right now its small and annoying.

can anybody please help?

best regards,
Ian

Ask MBenzNL on this forum. He's the only person I know that'd be capable of something so extensive.

From my experience with OEM retrofits, especially electronics, most of the time it's cost prohibitive/ nearly impossible to do it. I say nearly impossible because anything's possible with enough money. Although not the answer you want, maybe you should consider trading up to a newer one.

There are aftermarket touch screen units that look identical to the factory head units. I ordered one; however, the manufacturer keeps sending me emails with the following question "There are two different fiber optic parts in Mercedes cars, one is fiber optic CD changer, the other is fiber optic amplifier(there are fiber optic cables to amplifier or speakers), can you please tell me which one is yours?

If your car comes with fiber optic cables to amplifier or speakers, we need to send you a 6m long power cable to connect speakers directly and by-passing the existing amplifier, so your original amplifier will not work anymore, but our unit has amplifier built-in."

I am trying to figure out the answer to this. does anybody know what years have what systems? The aftermarket head unit is from china so obviously there is 0 troubleshooting or tech support on their end. they just keep having people with fake american names re-email me asking the same scripted questions.

can somebody please help. I love my G I barely have any miles on it (16k) and it makes no sense to spend 130k for almost the same exact thing just to get a fancier head-unit.
