Plan on buying a g and Dropping a bluetec - anyone done this

i thought i did a rudimentary search and couldnt find anything about dropping a cdi into a g. My wife has a new ml and we love the diesel powerplant. I have a cayenne turbo s and really dont need nor use the power and would love cruising with the extended range of a diesel. I assume importation is excessively expensive for a new g 350

Either option is going to be excessively expensive. I've not seen any examples of a successful diesel conversion of any modern G-wagen.

The United States marines have already done this conversion for you. Find an ex military diesel G and drop the whole drivetrain (+ fuel system and wiring harness) into your G and enjoy.

As with many military vehicles, you may have to purchase via government auction and need several "non-running" vehicles to come up with one complete conversion.

Good luck with your project.

G350 Bluetec
G350 in Germany

There was an article in the MBCA STAR about a European tour using a German-sourced G350 Bluetec. So I guess they are available in Europe anyway.

Unfortunately MBUSA does not want to import this model which would be a great option for many of us. It might canabalize sales of the new "off-road" ML that is now an option in NA. And, it is built here.

BTW our new GLK's OM there is a procedure for taking the GLK off road using two labeled buttons on the dash to raise the suspension, etc. If you are in the USA this model is NA ( stands for not available or north america) The two buttons on the dash are solid blank and do nothing.

Forgive me I can't post pics right now since the car and manual are elsewhere. I'll move the discussion of the GLK to the proper board but it is interesting.

Does anyone know where this model is sold? Two viable off-road options (I know the GLK is no G) are MIA in NA.

Everywhere but North Amerika. MBUSA really has their heads firmly planted where the sun never shines.

It's cheaper to source a diesel G and pay the customs. $25k-$50K for various models.
