AAS Defective
Hi, My 2013 G63 AMG Mercedes shows "AAS Defective" Message and then the Transmission Communication Light goes out. While light is out, gear shifting between R and D n vice-versa gives a jolt and car refuses to start if turned off. After the car cools off for about 3hrs. Car starts again and the process repeats after 30mins. Any Help on how to rectify the AAS Defective. Note: I noticed a 5amp fuse was blown in the fuse box. I changed the fuse but it blew again. I then put a 10amp fuse and this has held together, but the problem still persists.

This just happened to my 2013 G550. Car was in stop and go traffic with Distronic Cruise on. It lurched foward, popped out of gear and showed the "AAS Defective" message. Car was then in "limp home" mode, with about 1/3 power. Turn off/on didn't change things, but did clear the message. I drove to the dealership, engine was really hot when I arrived. Less than 1000 miles on it and just 20 days old.

They're killing the G with the new electronics. Like I said, I hate the interior and the electronics. A G has to remain a G. Simple, basic. Goes with the purpose. Form follows function.

I was advised that AAS stands for Attention Assistance System and it does tie into the transmission operation. But they could not duplicate the issue the next day when the mechanic looked at it and the truck wasn't throwing any codes.

Sorry, I don't think they ever told me what exactly they replaced, but whatever it was I haven't had the problem since. Maybe your dealer can look up my VIN or something and see what was done? If yes, let me know and I will share.

NEVER put a larger fuse in to fix a problem like that. If the fuse keeps blowing, that means that something is wrong and needs to be fixed. Putting in a larger fuse could potentially cause catastrophic damage to the vehicle, such as a fire.

Any one get affirmative fix to this? Same thing in my new g550 with 2k miles.
G was in stop and go traffic with Distronic Cruise on. It lurched forward, popped out of gear and showed the "AAS Defective" message + distronic disabled. Had to pop it into D, and it was fine. Next morning message popped up after putting into D "Transmission not in P, may roll away". Kind of a bummer for my first G.

I've never had the problem again since I had it in the first month or so. Now a year later with 12k miles on the car, no repeats. My VIN in case your dealer can see what was done on it: WDCYC3HF0DX209069

I don't know of a piece of road in the state of NY that is in good enough shape that I could tell if the car was pulling left/right ;-) So nothing severe enough to notice so far.

Gents - this is what I found out:
Defect codes fired were: Distronic Defect messages on SDS Short Test Codes:
c22ea00
c227000
c22a700
Theres a note saying "can signal shut off distronic ESP is implausible, pulse counter from esp implausible... could not duplicate.
They then opened a case and shared with engineers. Engineers instructed them to Bleed and Check Brake system for air. If no air replace ESP hydraulic unit. Bleed system.
they ended up replacing the ESP hydraulic unit.
So far so good.
Great service at Ray Catena in NJ by the way.
