I'm in SoCal with about a dozen dealers within an hour of me. Does this sound right?

yes - dealers should all be MSRP. their spiel is gonna be waiting list...and a friend might be able to get you one quicker :-0

All I could get was a USAA (armed forces) discount of $3k. The dealer must honor that discount, so at least it wasn't a struggle.
