How much did the body change from the 460/461 to the 463 G-Class?

How much did the body change from the 460/461 to the 463 G-Class?
I'm looking at buying a 1980 230 G possibly. In my quick google research I see it seems as if the body was mostly unchanged since it's inception.
The reason I ask the question is that I would like to buy an 80's G with a manual transmission and facelift it to a modern G class styling.
Are there major exterior differences that would make it impossible, or a ton of fab work?
