G500 humming / buzzing noise coming from behind dash

G500 humming / buzzing noise coming from behind dash
Hey guys,
I'm new to the board, but not new to MBs. I picked up a 2004 G500 with 106k miles yesterday. Real clean carfax, minimal rattling. However, when I started driving it a bit more, I hear a weird buzzing/ humming noise coming from behind the dash. I cant locate it.
here are some characteristics.
-Sound starts at 45MPH, speeds any lower than 45mph and you wont hear it.
-It is not affected by engine speed, changing gears or shifting into neutral does not change the sound/volume/tone.
-I don't believe it changes with vehicle speed. Once you hit 45mph it increases in volume til about 50mph and remains constant.

update:
If I rev the motor in park, there is no noise. I also placed a cardboard between the hood and the cabin air box to block air over the cabin air intake... no change in humming / whining noise.
