Few questions - 2008 G55

Hi All,

first, this is a great forum, a wealth of info for G-owners.

I had my G55 for a year, still love it.

Now it needs a few bits sorted:

1 - windscreen washer stopped working - I hear the pump but water is not flowing - reservoir is full. Either the impeller is shot or something else. thoughts?

2 - random engine light comes on. I replaced both rear O2 sensors and now I have this P1085 error code. The engine runs absolutely fine. Can't really trace it. Interestingly, I got a new battery and the light went away for a few hours.

my thoughts are
- other O2 sensors
- dirty injectors
- plugs

3 - what should I use to stick the side moldings (the reflective bits)? they keep peeling off despite using good 3M double sided tape.

thanks for reading.
I look forward to your comments

Check the washer lines that no cuts or tears. Could be a leak or as simple as a connector coming loose. Or Blocked nozzles! Hot water on the nozzles does magic.

You need to get a more specific code with Star or similar code reader. It will direct you to the specific issue you are having. From a quick google search I see one bank lean but that seems to be a BMW code. Again better to get a more specific code to read

Good place to start

If I'm not mistaken those reflective bits you're referring to are held on by clips/fasteners that may have snapped off. Was the car repainted for some reason? They may have removed the moldings and broke off the clips. If you try sticking them with double sided tape they will almost always come off after some time.
Congrats on your 1st year of use. I just recently (like a few days ago!) replaced my Kleemann modded 2003 G55 for a 2008 G55 and am myself debugging a few things the previous owner didn't really tend to. Nothing major but the stuff adds up. Part of the fun I guess!

Good luck with your ride! Hope this helps a bit at least.

Thanks, great advice.

I bought an OBD2 code reader and It immediately showed different codes for the O2 sensors (the second one, both banks) that receive no current or not th right voltage.

I'll get my trusted specialist to sort that out.

the windscreen washer was just clogged - as someone pointed out. It works perfectly now.

Side moldings - just the reflective bit - are in fact glued to the plastic, and in Dubai summer heat, over time, they come off. Common problem.

I have used industrial spec 3M tape and they're staying on for now.

Still a few bits to fix to make it run as I'd like, but it's a journey, not a sprint.

Update. It's the O2 sensors.

anyone know a part number I can use to source parts online? In UAE MB wants 250$ EACH for the front sensors, and I'm not having it.

Thanks.

The G will go in for service this week, I'm changing both the front O2 sensors (among other things).

Update. all 4 sensors have been changed. EM light goes off for 50km and then comes back.
Car runs perfect.

turns out 2 cats have been removed by the previous owner. I guess this is what's causing the problem.

Any idea on how to remove the engine management light permanently? my obd reader clears it but it comes back.

Alternatives?

Most tuning companies that do software flashes do a reprogramming that deactivates the downstream sensors from being read by the ecu so you don't get a CEL

Kleemann did it on my 2003. I know the others do as well

Good shout. I might get someone to do a remap here in Dubai. Sick of that warning light. The car runs perfectly

Update. Car is back in the UK with me. Easy import process and I've been driving it around here for the past 6 months.
Guess what? That stupid engine light is still on. Local specialist told me the ECU needs a rebuild or a replacement. Mercedes Benz wants (gasps for air) £2,200 for the part installed. Unless absolutely necessary -and it isn't - I am not doing that.

Some companies here should be able to fix that, but they need the part number. Does anyone know what part number an ECU for a G55 built in 2007 with the M113K engine is? thanks in advance
