2002 G500 aftermarket radio replacement, need Advice!
- Add a back-up camera
- Add better GPS
- Have connectivity for my iPhone to play music and make phone calls
- Connect to the steering wheel radio controls
- Put in something that fits as flush as possible to the OEM space
It would be great to have all of this in one unit, but let me know if anyone suggests something else (like changing the head unit and also putting in a separate GPS/rear view camera).
Also, does anyone know if this G has an "optical fiber amplifier"? A radio place asked me but I didn't know.
Any thoughts would help!
Thanks-
Rodger
I used a license plate mounted back up camera that points right down at my trailer hitch for when I'm hitching up and gives a good view for backing up in general.
One thing to note: the car will give you an error code every time you start it because the dash no longer communicates with the factory stereo. It thinks there is a problem and says visit workshop. Also, you cannot change the clock in the cluster because you normally do that through the stereo. Our C320 has a pioneer stereo, but in 2004, they made it so you can change the clock and the error message doesn't come up. Finally, the way the steering wheel controls work, when you push a button on the wheel such as change track, it changes the track and performs whatever function the button would normally do in the cluster. IE to change the track, you also switch from consumption from start to consumption from reset.

Same question. When I went to the Pioneer link posted above i only found a cable/interface.
I am looking for a more recent radio with NAV, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. i did see a few on eBay but have no idea how they would work in my G...
Anybody with some aftermarket Entertainment system that woudl hook up to MB G270 CDI ... European model Diesel but electronically extremely similar to same year G500?
Thanks in advance
I added a Pioneer backup camera in the factory MB Camera housing and was also able to maintain steering wheel controls. It is also a bigger screen than the factory one too and fits nicely with a standard double din kit that any stereo shop can get for you.
