Catchy title? I was inspired by the recent flameout in the forum to make this claim that almost nobody would want to argue with.
The G270cdi is a model that was available outside the US for many years and is a configuration that I think is used commonly in the military spec versions. It produces about 150hp and has a noticeable difference between when the turbo is cranking and isn't.
THE POINT of this post is to ask if anyone else on here has this motor or one of the other Diesels.
It's great to talk with everyone about the suspension, body, brakes, etc. but it would be nice to talk about turbos too.
This is a daily driver for me and because I live in Nicaragua we go between the sandy beach, construction sites, forests and rivers in the mountains. We use this vehicle in the settings that god put on earth for G-class commercials. It really is perfect for that kind of driving. It makes me smile every time we get out of a patch of fluffy sand or a deep creek unassisted.

I drove a few of those Diesel versions while outside the US on assignments. They were run pretty hard and they take it. Not fast but hard to stop those buggers, they keep trucking along. hahahaha. Were not that lucky to have Diesel versions in the US. I would love to have my G63 with say a clean running cummins or the new small Duramax.

They've started selling the gas models here in Nicaragua and the President famously drives around in a G63 (Daniel Ortega). I see it getting serviced sometimes at the dealership.
Import taxes are very high here. New Gs cost about 80% more here than they do in the US. That makes it very hard to justify buying one and makes it easy to justify the fixing up of the one in the garage.

Hi Paqueras,
Nice to meet you. That is very interesting. Did you chip it yourself? I'm curious about doing that. My wife would like the vehicle to have a bit more power when we're climbing hills up in the mountains.
Did you write a post about the modification you made?

I chipped my G320 CDI with a company called "Diesel Power" (www.diesel-power.com). No problems at all with the module, more power and more torque.
I just checked the website and you get +31HP and +70NM for US$ 500.00
