2004 mercedes g500 vs 2010 lexus lx 570
hi every1,
I am in search of a new car i drive a 2008 BMW x5 thinking of getting either the 2004 Mercedes g500 or 2010 Lexus lx 570
now i would like to know will the g500 be as reliable as the Lexus or not
both have the same millage about 120000KM
also what should i look for in the g500 to turn me off and what problems could i expect to have and what will the maintenance cost be yearly roughly.
what problems am i looking to find in the upcoming year what should i expect braking soon
final i know this mind sound stupid but which one based on these criteria would you suggest and why...
thank u all

definitely a G500. These cars hold their value for long periods of time. reliability is underrated, these are VERY reliable. if you know how to maintain a car yourself, it will be a handy project (easy). if not, they may cost more than your average car to maintain, BUT worth every single dollar. the window regulators are a very common problem on these, they brake sometimes if you play with them a lot. also, gas mileage is not good at all, so be expecting to be at the gas station if you drive a lot. As for the mileage, these cars can go up to 400,000 miles if maintained properly. G500's are kinda slow in my opinion (doesn't satisfy me), so i would highly recommend a G55 AMG, it is a step further. Anyways, good luck with the purchase!

the M113 and the 722.6xx trans are bulletproof. They have their quirks (sparkplug leads) but are solid.
I shopped the exact same cars...while the LX is an amazingly capable truck too, and frankly probably more reliable than the w463, and the price is attractive...their floor is in the 10-12k range on the used market. The W463 is 28-30k for a decent one.
I've had mine about a year, have put about 18k miles on it so far. It is slow, but I am ok with that. Around town the torque makes it squirty enough, it is above 50 it is pig slow. The brakes are fine, just remember it is a 5600 pound truck. It drinks gas (add a lift, 33s, and an exhaust you want to hear all the time and it gets worse) and it drinks premium.
Agree with the above though, in general super reliable. Most of the parts have been used for decades, little has changed, much is overbuilt. Many of the weak points are from the illustrious daimler-chrysler era when the US spec car first hit the streets (seat switches and locks) but even then aren't too bad.
I have gone through window regulators at the cyclic rate though, and find in general the generic chinese stuff is no worse than the OEM in terms of reliability. Figure 2 hours of labor every time you have to swap it out.
I love mine.

I can't speak for the LX570, but the 450 and 470 were probably the best cars I've ever owned (Owned 3) They are ridiculously reliable, beasts off road, and very comfortable.
That said I own a G55 now and I love it also, but for different reasons. The G55 is an attention getting road tank. A lot rougher riding then the Lexus. As far as reliability the G hasn't been bad by any means its starts right up and has never let me down, but I have had a few things, window regulator, 2 door locks, things like that.
Just my 2 cents, both are amazing cars with great history!
