How will new G impact values
Opinions on how the newly released G will affect the 2013-17 cars. It will be at least a year until the new G63 is available. I am thinking of just buying the current one for now, thinking the values will be unharmed. Thoughts?

The demand for the G is very strong at present and prices are firm. Who knows what the future will bring once the new model hits the market. As an example, I was offered a wholesale price yesterday by a dealer that would take me out of my lease with no negative equity. Low mileage well maintained units are in demand. I'm not sure residual value has anything to do with the new model launch, however, I suspect there will be more marketing coming over the next few months. That can't hurt resale values for the older models. Everything considered, I would hold out for the new model. I'll probably sell my '16 and wait to order the upgraded model.

Hard to say without knowing what the sticker price of the new G and AMG version. Interestingly, as the G5xx and G63 prices have crept up over the past few years I believe the increased cost of a new truck had a halo effect on the pre-facelift G55 and G5xxs helping to stabilize prices. To that end, it remains unclear how MB will price these new versions. My guess is that they stabilize the price and keep closely in line with the existing prices. If they do something crazy and drop the new G500/AMG to below the current 125/144k MSRP then I think you can expect older G's to drop in resale value. Similarly, an increase in MSRP could help the current Gs by keeping its depreciation to an already low rate. I do not think there is any scenario where the W463s become a highly desired and rare asset like a 993 Turbo. That said, I'm keeping my eyes open for a used 2017 G65 as I do think that car has some potential to go down in history as a rare homage to the insane absurdity that it is.... :p

Good points. I do think that there are enough purists that prefer the solid front axle and traditonal items the W463 has. The big displacement M157 being one. The export market I think will always be there for the US cars to keep values up. Being impatient on the new AMG. The last year production W463 may feel it worse. Surpised they didn't do a true Grand Edition this time like they did in 2005.

Thinking of buying 2018 and perhaps trading it in 4-5 years, I typically maintain cars well and put low mileage on it (<10k miles /yr) so I don't anticipate much of a value hit
