New '18 G63 brakes/transmission "shudder/shake" Question. Please help.
I took delivery of a new 2018 G63 AMG 2 weeks ago. Yes!! I know an all new G-Class is coming out this Autumn/Winter...but I personally do not care for the all digital instruments and softened suspension the new model will have. I'm sure it will be a great G, but I like the old school look and feel of the current/2018 model.I have asked my dealer, and they say this is normal, but I have driven another '18 G63 and what I am experiencing is much less. When I am doing normal around town driving, speeds usually in the 25-45mph range, and I am getting ready to come to a stop either for a traffic light, Stop sign or just needing to slow down...when my new G begins to slow, before it actually stops there is a very pronounced "shudder/vibration/shimmy" that can be felt from the front of the car. The feeling does not really transfer thru the brake pedal, but can be felt thru the floor of the car, and actually the whole front of the car.
The MBZ dealer tells me this is due to the solid front suspension and is normal, but if this is so...why did the other G I drove not do this? Is this a normal feeling, sensation? Also, I do not think I could have warped rotors, as my car has 500 miles and it 2 weeks old.
Thank you so much!!
When the G is coming almost a stop, either via braking or slowing naturally, the transmission is doing it's final downshift, and then something about the pistons spinning.
We drove another '18 63, and the sensation/feeling was there, but much less than on my G.
At 2,000 miles the G63/65 has a mandatory AMG differential service, and the shop foreman says they will try and re-adapt/re-map the downshift software to make mine a little gentler. He said it will not make it worse, it might make it better or it might offer no change, LOL #honesty
But, at least I know my brakes, rotors and tires are perfect and my G is behaving like a G...maybe just a little more G than other Gs
The solid front suspension is pretty rare for any vehicles nowadays, so sensations, feelings, noises, bumps, imperfections are always more noticeable in a G-Class.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
