No OFF (0) position for headlights

No OFF (0) position for headlights
This was the same on my 2016 G550, our 2017 G63 and now the '18 G63. It seems all other Mercedes models, past and present have an OFF (0) position for headlights. Anyone know why the G has only an AUTO option?
I dislike that EVERY time I start my G in a garage, the headlights come on and then turn off when exiting the garage and entering daylight. Also, there are times when one actually wants to kill the headlights, but keep the car running. Find it so strange only the G-Class cannot turn headlights off.
