Hello all,

A few days ago I noticed two small sections of oxidation on my G-class. One is a pea-sized bubble near the rear door hinge (the upper one) and another is a 0.5" x 2" strip on the rear passenger door sill. Needless to say, I am pretty upset with Mercedes. I only have 58,000 miles on it, and I take very good care of the car. I'm also worried that other spots will develop over time, and that I will constantly have to fix them. I've tried contacting Mercedes about the issue, but their customer service line sends me in circles and I've heard no response by email. This is the second (!) G-class I've owned that has developed rust before 75k miles! The first was a 2002 G-500. I was assured by the Mercedes salesman that Mercedes had switched to a new paint formula on all post 2004 models which would prevent rust from happening on newer vehicles. So much for that...

Anyways, what can I do about these problem areas? And is there anything I can do to help mitigate potential future problems regarding rust? Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your paint situation. First of all, going directly to MB customer service is not going to work. You should start with the dealer who can get your complaint into the system and move it along the resolution chain. Dealer first and then regional representative if no satisfaction from dealer. You may eventually get to corporate but that will always be the last resort. The dealer should be able to determine the cause and severity of the problem and how it can be addressed. Is the truck still in warranty? Can it be corrected at the dealer? Who is responsible for resolution? Good luck. Let us know how you make out.
