Did you go with the AMG Line package?

dunderhi 10-30-2018 03:45 PM

Following my day 2 of ownership tradition; the badges are removed. Also part of the tradition, my wife rolls her eyes and tells me not to touch her car.

Being so close to the VPC, you might literally be the 1st regular customer to have taken delivery of the G...no dealers I’ve called have them available to even view yet.

That's what I've been thinking. The dealer was surprised when the G showed up on Saturday.

Yes. The 14 spoke wheels and the flat bottom steering wheel should be the most recognizable features. The brakes and fenders are a bit harder to recognize.

I don't think all AMG lines get the flat bottomed steering wheel. I ordered the 8XX series interior and was told that the flatbottomed steering wheel does not come on the 8XX series upgraded interior? Hope that's not the case, since I like the flat bottom (I'm fat, hahaha).

That is correct. The DOG states that the L5B flat bottom steering wheel is not available with 8xx leathers.

G550 kind of sounds like a C63, so that seems appropriate. Any confusion will be cleared up once proper tires are installed. I just need to figure how big I can go and still fit in my garage.

Anyone hear of specific dealers that have received Gs ?

None of the dealers near Manhattan have.

CL5504Matic 10-30-2018 08:00 PM

Dunderhi...Just btw, I think your car is emerald....and your signature is olive.

My dealer is expecting two next week. Both are sold but he will call to give me a chance to look over one up close and in person. My present G lease is do for turn in in March, so I have some time to see how things shake out with the supply chain.

Yeah, I think it’s olive also. I just need a few minutes at the computer to shrink one of the pics I took today, before I can update my sig.

The more I look at your new G, the more I love the colour. Just looks so good on the G. This colour, also looks amazing on the Full Size Range Rover. Perfect, big SUV colour!! Congrats again. So beautiful, cool and amazing!!

congrats Dunderhi! It looks gorgeous 😍

Congrats for sure. Great color and love that you have it on some dirt right out of the gate. Two things I'm dying to get a better look at if you are so inclined to take a pic. A close of up shot of the red/yellow side marker embedded in the strip. Am 100% going to be swapping those out for the euro strips at some point. And the side view behind the rear wheel. I'm curious how the rear wheel is connected to the rear door. Was thinking of taking the rear wheel off mine when it comes but not sure what entailed.

Here's a close up of the red marker. They both look the same.

Here's a pic of the spare connection. BTW, the door jamb states that the spare is sized 265/50R20.

THANK YOU! Can't tell you how much I appreciate that. Seems like it will be easy to swap those out.

The rear wiper mech is super close to the rear tire!

Deutsch100 11-03-2018 10:20 AM

Hi. Was looking at the rear again of your new G (it is my fav part of the new G!!!). Where did MBZ put the reverse camera?

I had them on my Bimmers with no issues. It's probably no less reliable than a wiper blade motor.

dunderhi 11-03-2018 03:06 PM

My next area of curiosity, since I am thinking about larger on/off road tires. The rear tire mount.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...ae131301c6.jpg
Looks like a key lock, but really isn't
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...278d372f79.jpg
There's only half an inch left on the threads. so a larger tire won't fit

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...f3aacc6f98.jpg
A taller tire will need a soft cover - maybe something like "Jeeps are for girls" ;)
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...54669aa8aa.jpg
Confirmed - one size smaller than the 275/50R20 mounted on the G
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...6bd738c088.jpg
Identical rim - which I probably scratched trying to remount
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...af48177ece.jpg
I couldn't remove this mount - I need a bigger wrench. It is painted underneath

drew138 11-03-2018 07:39 PM

You're doing a wonderful service with all these detailed pics. If you take off the rear tire mount, please to take a pic. Very curious.

Would also love to see a wide angle shot of the whole rear w/o the spare on it. But don't take it off again for me! :)

Thanks again.

I decided to put the G to work this morning. The first thing I noticed is the the spare tire gets in the way of my cargo carrier. Luckily, I had an extender handy.
