On Road with new G Wagons?

Anyone enjoying the new 2019 Gs? Any on road / highway feedback to share? Reading overall positive news but AutoWeek said the G "acted like your old boss on the way home from the Christmas party -- heavy and just a little tipsy". Hoping it's not too accurate.

We've has our new G550 for a month today and it replaced our 2017 G63. I drove it for about a week and since then my wife took it.

It is more refined such that the steering doesn't feel so "loose" when you are going down the road. The turning radius has also improved so we don't have to back up anymore before turning into the garage.

Over all smoother ride and much quieter with significantly reduced wind noise from the windshield. It isn't flat as it used to be but slightly curved when you view it form the side. I also like the fact that the windshield no longer has the defrost lines in it at least for the US market. Don't get me wrong it isn't like an S class smooth but in between the GLS and the previous gen G class. It still has the ruggedness feel to it but more IMO more controllable on the road.

Visibility form a seated standpoint also seems better which may be due to the active seats in our model which are very comfortable. Obviously having all the creature comforts of the electronics are a big leap into this century.

Overall we love it so far. I actually ordered 2 G's, one 550 and a 63 which is due in the spring time which will probably be a beast.

Hope this helps

See, I am the opposite. Everything I found charming and many of the things I want my G to drive like were lost on the new one. So I opted for a 2018 G63 rather than a 2019 G550. The acquisition prices were nearly the same and both were on the lot.

Dont get me wrong, the interior updates are awesome but I wanted a rugged utilitarian beast. Not a lifted S-Class. I guess that’s what makes the world go round. They’re all amazing machines. Pick what makes you happy.

New g

I have a 2018 S 63 and have had my 2019 G 550 for about a month now. I had it tuned and the exhaust done and added 22” wheels with 305-40-22 Nitto Terra Graplers. I also had all of the chrome powder coated satin black. I love the just about everything in the new G class. Only complaint so far is that my windshield cracked I’m not sure from what and there is not a replacement in the US.

New G looks good

I have the previous gen G63 and it looks like the new one has addressed the main bug bears I have (and others I speak to) with mine - namely it can be uncomfortable and cornering is a challenge! The new G63 has independent front suspension and electric rack and pinion steering, which should help in many ways.
