Difficulty ordering 2019 G in Canada

I have had a $2000 deposit placed since July 2017 at Mercedes-Benz Thornhill. I was informed today that my deposit would be refunded as the dealership wouldn't be able to provide a car. Eligible customers have to fit into three criteria: currently own a G-Class, own a Mercedes that cost over $100,000, or have a trade-in with a value over $100,000. This is according to my salesperson who said the information was from the head office. The dealership is a corporately owned store by Mercedes-Benz Canada. In addition, G-Class are only available for lease, not finance or purchase. Can anyone corroborate this information? Is there another way to purchase a new G-Class in Canada, perhaps from another dealership group, i.e. AWIN Mercedes-Benz Oakville or PFAFF Mercedes-Benz Kitchener-Waterloo? Those with new 2019 G-Class in Ontario do seem to fit into the criteria though. Customer 1: S63 Coupe and G63, Customer 2: 2018 G63, 2019 G550, 2019, G63, Customer 3: 2x SL63 AMG, G63 AMG, Customer 4: S63 AMG, AMG GTR, etc. These strict rules seem to be a result of many people exporting G-Class from Canada.

A gaggle of MB's
A good part of this has to do with the current USD/CDN exchange rate - G-Wagen's in Canada are way cheaper than US.... and MB Canada won't tolerate export..

If you have had a MB purchase before, it would be much easier to push it through. It took us 2 years from placing a deposit for G till delivery of a G63 earlier this month. Canadian market is much smaller than U.S. and we get the short end when it comes to N.A. allocation.

I also got the BS on lease at >6% rate from another GTA dealer when I decided to go with the sales who previously sold another MB to us. I guess that is another way to make money for them when no markup above MSRP is allowed.

damn, should have told me I would pick up your allocation. They just wanted to sell your spot to someone for $50-100k above msrp

I ordered a G63 from my local dealer in Halifax back in Oct 2018, they didn't set any restrictions on my order. I have never owned a MB car before. Just put a 20k deposit and they will order the car for you.
