Possible to order without Bull Bar? Canada?

Saw someone on here mention that in the US, all G-Class vehicle are sold with the bull bar because thats how they were tested. Apparently it is not the case in Canada as you can order the G550 there without it, and in fact the bull bar is an optional item that you have to pay for. This also allows for the 360º surround camera as an option on the G550, where in the US its only available on the G63.

Has anyone ever ordered from Canada while in the US? Is that even a thing?

in Canada the bull bars are optional I think, not for the edition one however. But all g63’s could be spec’d with a brush guard or without. Yes.

From what I was able to find out...g63 allocation in Canada is restricted to lease only.

So while it is technically possible, perhaps with other models, not practically possible.

In the US bullbar is a must. For now.

If it's not true that's great news...because I think the restrictions and program they put out is just ridiculous.
You should be able to buy it...without markup.

This is from another forum member, and there are others who corroborated his post on other threads too all posted a month or so ago. But it might just be a corporate store policy....or salesmen giving misinformation.

Andial , 03-15-2019 06:13 PMI have had a $2000 deposit placed since July 2017 at Mercedes-Benz Thornhill. I was informed today that my deposit would be refunded as the dealership wouldn't be able to provide a car. Eligible customers have to fit into three criteria: currently own a G-Class, own a Mercedes that cost over $100,000, or have a trade-in with a value over $100,000. This is according to my salesperson who said the information was from the head office. The dealership is a corporately owned store by Mercedes-Benz Canada. In addition, G-Class are only available for lease, not finance or purchase. Can anyone corroborate this information? Is there another way to purchase a new G-Class in Canada, perhaps from another dealership group, i.e. AWIN Mercedes-Benz Oakville or PFAFF Mercedes-Benz Kitchener-Waterloo? Those with new 2019 G-Class in Ontario do seem to fit into the criteria though. Customer 1: S63 Coupe and G63, Customer 2: 2018 G63, 2019 G550, 2019, G63, Customer 3: 2x SL63 AMG, G63 AMG, Customer 4: S63 AMG, AMG GTR, etc. These strict rules seem to be a result of many people exporting G-Class from Canada.

In many cases, salespersons and dealerships make up BS stories or policies especially for highly desirable models in order to maximize their profits in whatever ways they want. It’s up to the buyers to decide either play along or turn around and look for something else. When I placed my order for my GT R, my dealer told me MB Canada required 10% ($20k) deposit for the factory order, I didn’t argue because I want the car, but I also know that they only collected $5000 from my friend who also ordered a GT R.

I am tempted to place an order for G63 but last I was told the wait list is now up to 3 years in western Canada. I guess I’ll find out the truth soon.

I was offered Cash/Finance/Lease options.
3yrs seems excessive- I didnt have any of the 3 "prerequisites for purchase" and it took exactly 8 months from initial contact to delivery (BC)

Do you have the US MY19 550? If so, did you find correct plugs for the holes? I can find the euro plugs available for sale, but none for the US model. I have my local dealership looking into it now.

I contacted them and they indicated both parts are needed, but it is so new, they're not sure if additional parts are needed. One client ordered just the covers and used double sided tape, but ordered the backing piece a few weeks later. I'm not sure if the tape held up or not, but seems like that could be a quick/cheap option. I'm waiting to order until I can get confirmation on all parts that are needed.

With the Canadian exchange rate and lack of 25% tariff, the Canadian G class seems to be about $25K USD cheaper when purchased in Canada vs. the US.

At that price difference, you could buy a modest home in Canada, register your G class at it's address, then drive it home to the US. And most importantly, not have to drive around with a garish brush guard.
