Largest tire size on 22" rims

Did some research but wondering what the largest tire I can run without a lift on a 19 G550 on 22's? 305/45/22? Or would sticking with 285/45/22 be wise?

Thanks

I think you will be fine. I have 305/35/24 and have zero issues.

Are you running stock wheels or aftermarket .. what is the offset of the wheels? The only possible issue I could foresee is if you have really low offset wheel and at full turn you could make slight contact with the front wheel well vents

Hello,

305 will rub at full U-Turn, 285 would be the safest. However 305 looks more aggressive =)

I actually have not picked any wheels yet I am still contemplating which to get and so on, thank you all for the feedback I think I will probably go with a 285 just to be safe as I don't want to have to trim anything in the wheel wells.

I'll probably also go with a spacer not sure what size but something to make them flush with the fenders.

I've got 305/45's on mine and there are no issues. We have to do U-turns everywhere around town too.

You did 305/45 on 2019 G550? What's the offset of wheels you are running?

What tires are you running? I was hoping for something like a nitto Terra grappler. Don't know if that will work in that size though with a 22" wheel.

what tires will fit on the factory 22" wheels?

i tried 33x12.5 trail grapplers --- they rub in the front, even with a 2" lift

want to try 305/45, but obviously dont want rub. we tried a 2" lift (still on), and 20mm spacers (made it worse, took it off).
i guess 285/45 is the safest bet, but would really like the 305 to work

Kinjal, you are really using one of the only tires that’s gonna rub.. use tiresize.com as a valuable resource. Keep the tire diameter under 32.5 and the width under 12.4 and you should be fine. Spacers would only make your wheels rub more as they are further out and turns would scrap inner well. The other issue is the trail grapplers have a super aggressive off-road tread that will catch that fender well hard.

Im not expert but I have 305/35/24 on my truck and clear everything with ease. I love my Toyo ST3

My recommendation would be 305/40/22 Nitto Terra grapplers if you want that off-road look.. if you want 305/45, Falken Ziex STZ05 probably safest bet f(many California stores like Platinum Motorsport run this model on their g wagons).. but if I had 22’s I would be running a 305/40 for sure

If you do 305/45 or 305/40 you'll need to cut inner plastic no matter what. This will be the only way you won't rub. We have several dealers running 463 Industries 22" wheel on the 2019 G550, they all run 305 and all of them had to cut small portions of the plastic lining.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you!

Thanks for the info. I have a 50mm lift. Wondering if that will help bypass further trimming. Here is what the plastic lining looks like currently.

Do do you have any recommendations on where else to trim? My shop has been racking their brains on this too

Trying 305/45 ridge Grappler on Friday.

if this still rubs with the 305/45 (32.8 x 11.93), do you think 285/50/22 (33.5” x 11.69”) could work? It’s .7” taller, while less wide by .3”

I know the 285/45/22 ridge or 285/40/22 terra would work, but then I’m approaching near stock tire measurements

RDBLA put 305/35/24 (32.52 x 12.17) on a G550 that wasn’t lifted nor do I think was trimmed.

Joz gave really good advice. Tire markings doesn't always mean its the same across the board. You need to look at specific dimensions under tire description,. Also like he mentioned the tires lugs on more aggressive offload tires will rub more things. Also do you need your front bull bar? If not take it off and that might solve your rubbing. The bull bar on my 63 is pretty damn heavy and actually made the front lift up slightly .

I have 305/35/24 on my g550

i inserted this stick and turned wheel full.. seems my overall tire diameter is really the most you want to chance, which is 32.4” .. with this diameter it seems , according to my logic , you are safe from rubbing the plastic vent in well... regardless of wheel offset or width...

305/45/22 is 32.8. It’s going to rub on 22” wheels as previous posts said. For 22” go with the 285. It’s the same ****. Difference is .88 cm on each side of sidewall and the width on each side. Peace of mind and the ability to perform without rubbing. I’m getting them out on next week. And I’m lifted 50mm

Also, the g63 has more equipment and cooling pipes than the g550. Shop told me it has less space than the G550 for aftermarket tires

Thanks. Expensive mistake, but oh well. I’ll sell those tires for something, and I do like the 50mm lift

Mind posting a photo of the stock wheel with the 285’s?

The damn 285’s rub as well.

Advice: Don’t put bigger tires on the stock 22s. Get new wheels with different offset if you want bigger tires
