Heated windshield 2017 G550 Replacement
I have cracked windshield 2017 G550. I'm convinced these are defective by design/production. I've been driving 'older' G-wagens and Defender Land Rovers for over 20 years and this is first time I've seen this.....but that aside.
I'm not a fan of the heated windshield as the wires annoy me and honestly for the few times I use it and need it.......it just isn't worth it.
Can I replace the windshield with a non-heated windshield and where do I go??? I don't think the dealer will do it as they are already saying it will create fault codes, etc.
Any experience with this??

anyone have to replace a windshield in the older g wagons? I just got a chip in my line of sight on my 2017 G63 and wondering if I should go with Safelite Or with the dealer.

I ended up getting a new windshield on our 2013 G550 a few weeks ago, used a 3rd party installer and they used Pilkington glass (same as OEM MB but without the Star on it.) They also offered to get MB glass for I think ~$200 more.
I used them based on my previous experience and their experience working on European cars, etc. It took the installer ~3 hrs and he commented that there were lots of sensors/wires that needed to be disconnected/reconnected. They also installed a new gasket, which is recommended by MB.
The local dealer here (MB of Seattle) farms it out to another 3rd party installer, they don't do any of the installs themselves.
