New G550; questions about modifications
Just got my new 2019 G550 - new to me, actually bought it used with 8k miles. Love it! I now understand all the reviews about not being able to get the smile off my face. Will post pics soon.
Thinking about doing a few minor mods, and wanted to see if anyone has experience and/or advice. I already changed the factory shoes to 275/55/20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Love them.
Things I’m considering:
1. Roof crossbars: not a full roof rack, just the crossbars; I’ve seen photos, and there are clearly built-in slots to install them, but the dealer told me that MB does not have anything available yet. Does anyone know if there is something available from MB? I’ve seen photos, but can’t find any info.
2. Rock sliders: looks like Viking off-road has some for the 2019+ model. Has anyone done this? Would love to see photos. I assume you have to talk off the running boards. Also, I’d love a recommendation for a shop to go to in the Denver area.
3. Renntech ECU: welcome any thoughts on the reliability and performance impact here. I’ve done ECU mods to Audis with good success, but I’m not familiar with Renntech. My local dealer is an authorized rep. I assume it would void part of the warranty, if a defect is due to the turbos. I’m coming from other high performance cars (X5M and M5), so the G550 feels just a bit slow, but not bad.
4. Adaptor to turn the spare tire around (and remove the cover). I see there is one for the previous generation, but haven’t found one for 2019+.
