Arrow G63 side molding

Does anyone know the process of removing the insert in the side molding that goes along the sides of the 2018 and older G63's? I know the whole molding is adhered onto the truck but is the insert also just an adhesive that's put in there? I was hoping to swap to add the standard Chrome in as I love the contrast of it. Thanks

Yes the insert is also adhered. Just peel off and use a little goo gone to remove the adhesive residue

Thanks, didn't realize that. I'm assuming if I order the chrome inserts they'll come with some adhesive on them already?

Correct. Make sure you clean the moldings good so the trim can adhere

Clean the old residue off 100 and 10 percent. Twice. Should be smooth. Use rubbing alcohol as a final touch. They actualy make a special adhesive remover I think better than hardware stuff. And take extra care when installing the new trim to make sure the lead and back ends of the trim are beveled and stuck firmly as this is the major weak point. If these are not flush to the bottom of the molding every single minor cloth will catch it and grab the edge and pull it back slightly. Trust me!

Thanks a lot for your input. Makes sense and definitely don't want that to happen. It looks like the oem silver trim will run about $1000 so I want to make sure it looks great. It has the oem carbon fiber trim now that I'm trying to like but I'm not the biggest fan of it.

I swapped out OEM trim for carbon trim as I liked the blackout look. Did you order it yet. Still have my OEM somewhere but its from a 2010 G55. Have no idea the condition but if interested we could discuss. I'm in Northern Cal.

AMG GLS63
A 2016 Im in the process of buying has the mouldings that are peeling on one side, no signs of damage prior just ends of each piece lifting (apart from the little AMG one), how easy is it to fully remove them, clean, apply new adhesive and re attach?

Thanks

May I ask where you got the carbon fiber trim?

I was coming to the board to post about this. I was wondering what people did with these. My trim basically requires replacement REGULARLY. These things peel right off, and seem to last so short of a time period I'm shocked anyone still bothers with them OR there isn't a better adhesive solution. It's like I gotta drop a couple hundred bucks every couple months for one trim piece or another.

I only keep going because the cool "AMG" logo'd ones have stayed the whole time and I like those!
