Arrow G63 Casual Driving Question

Hey everyone, was just wondering something. Is it normal for a older model G63 when driving casually in both comfort and sport mode to want to shift at 1500 RPM? I notice at cruising low speed 10-45 mph give or take it always wants to be in a higher gear, often cruising at 1100-1200RPM. If I want to accelerate gradually it won't down shift either (has enough power that it doesn't need to). Never noticed any lag but I always thought running at such a low RPM could cause the engine to lug and not be great for the engine long term. Is it just a twin turbo thing and that's how they are setup to be? Thank you

I have noticed what you have described on my 14 G63. Sometimes in lower speeds it does this often. Almost felt like the transmission was slipping but now I have gotten used to it. Same with the engine lugging the truck holds the gear when I think it should downshift. I think its the nature of the truck.

Does anyone know when to service these MCT ? I am at 58k miles on my C63 I did at 50k.

I find the same and typically just drive in manual - or at least sport ...... much like my C63 it tends to short-shift.... I do believe it does have a TCU that could be reset and is adaptive as well - I noted that with the C63 when I put in the lighter 15lb braille battery, the shifting was different for a period, and when my wife drives it for extended periods and I then take it out it seems to have reverted to short shifting if left even in sport......

I plan on servicing it every 30k for the G - I do the C every 20k given it's use.

Exactly! Especially in neighborhoods where the speed limit is 25 i feel like it just drags on instead of downshifting and sometimes even stays below 1,000 RPM.

I thought that too, might ask for a reset but I don't drive aggressive so I'm sure it will learn the same thing. As long as the engine is okay It's not a complaint. Just not used to it being a normal thing.

Do you guys also notice the engine is very loud ? I heard the M157 is loud by nature and watching some youtube videos I have seen its common but man its one loud engine.

Also speaking of the transmission in stop and go traffic sometimes the transmission is very confused and will downshift at the wrong time with a clunk that you feel in the pedal. My C63 W204 was similar in similar traffic conditions. The Mercedes MCT 7 speed is not that nice of a transmission in general IMO.

low speeds to me are the times being in manual really makes a difference.... starting in 2nd and short shifting into 3rd at 25 annoys me.... once on the highway I switch to sport...

I did find that when I alone drove it after the reset it was crisper for a good while in sport - but my wife is much more conservative and it does appear to be adaptive...

all first world problems.... but wish there was a TCU tune for them like with some of the Audi's...

these ( c63 and G63 ) are also drive by wire so it's a programmed setup not linkage...

I know they're avail for our cars but haven't heard much on how they perform on the DBW mercs....... worth trying perhaps. I'm getting a set of DP's and tune next month and will ask EC what they think or have for insight and report back.
