so my driver side window developed a pretty major crack. my insurance company glass repair/replacement works via a service called safelite auto glass. does anyone have experience with this (especially on a new G-class?) i have a 2019 G63 and dropped it at my dealer today but my insurance company said they're unlikely to cover the full cost of the replacement if done at a dealer.
SafeLite is a national chain of auto glass repair shops - frankly I do not know if aftermarket glass is available for the side windows - in the event aftermarket glass is not available - then SafeLite (with the approval of your insurance company) would order-in and install MB OEM Glass purchased from the closest MB dealer.
Sorry that you didn't your insurance policy's glass coverage before you completed buying your G-Wagen - front windshield (not available aftermarket yet) is MB Part Price about $2,900 - don't know Side Glass MSRP.
At time of purchase a Glass Protection can be like about $1,500 for $3500-$5,000 in glass coverage with MB OEM glass 100% OK.
Yes, I have used Safelite AutoGlass. They replaced the glass in my Sprinter. I had a steel i beam go through the front window, found out through my insurance company that I had free windshield replacement. The guy came out, attached an arm to the side of the car and put the indow by himself in about 20 minutes. Very fast process. I didnt have to do anything.
I’ve seen your car always street parked in Brooklyn. It depends on your insurance, my State Farm covers the whole thing that I’ll be replacing my windshield at MB Manhattan.
I've used Safelite in the past. Had a stone chip on an SL with only 1500 miles. They repaired the chip in their local shop to a standard where it was impossible to see the chip. Very pleased with their work. They also walked me through the insurance process by getting my insurance company on a conference call that resulted in everything being taken care of with that one call. In Massachusetts we are required to carry glass insurance on our policies. With the few windshield replacements I've had (mostly Porsche and MB) I've never paid anything. Of course our rates are no bargain.
