More evidence the G550 engine really is just an AMG engine without the signature.

It was designed by AMG, but it’s factory built by MB in Untertürkeim for non-AMG models. The G550 gets the detuned version, so there’s some hope for decent reliability.

The cylinder heads on all the 4.0L have AMG stamped in the casting. The 4.0L was completely designed by AMG then scaled for a mass production model.
