OK
I have always been fascinated with civilian vehicles which were really designed for Military use.
My first vehicle was a Jeep Wrangler when I was 16.
I wanted a Defender for years but just never pulled the trigger and then they quit making them sending the prices insane.
I almost bought a H1 Alpha 2 years ago but I test drove it and just found it to be beyond a dog on Freeways.
The G wagen was always my first true love but never thought it would be something in my budget (I was a college student)

Anyway I was bummed when I heard the G was being made into a true SUV. I have been driving an 06 LX470 for the past few years and just hit the point where I miss modern comforts like good bluetooth etc and was looking for something new. I was looking at the LX again but Id be spending almost 100K on something that is WAY overdue for a total update. A Escalade on Navigator are going to cost me over 100K and be worth a LOT less in 2 years. So I decided to just do it and after looking on and off for the past few months, I decided I wanted an 18 as it was the last year and came close to pulling the trigger a couple times on white or black G63's but there was always something I did not love be it the seats or steering wheel (petty LOL) anyway I did not LOVE white or black but it was just what was mostly out there. I like Matte but have heard they will never look right if you have to touch up the paint. Finally I found a very low mileage in Palladium Silver with black diamond seats and red stitching.

I just closed the deal and will be flying out to pick it up and drive it home in the next week or two. I am VERY excited! I just turned in my M3 a couple months ago so am looking forward to a nice engine growl again!

OK
I like a nice aggressive AT tire, my Lexus has BFG AT KO2's on it.
This has the 20's which are cute and nice for good smooth roads but I am in Metro Detroit, we have potholes that can swallow a car and I have never had good luck on snow or ice with low profile performance tires. What can I put on the stock wheels for something that looks more suited for a truck or do I need to get new wheels? Ive always been a fan of the BFG AT KO2.

bought sight unseen? Brave soul. I've never purchased a car unless seeing it in person. Maybe OCD but I'll find every little blem...have to see it in person to know if I can live with it.

I have a 16 g63 and wanted the pirelli scorpion ATR all terrain tire but dealer recommended the pirelli scorpion Zero all season. I'm not sure the zero is a better tire in snow & Ice here in NY. If i were you I would consider the ATR tire ..

Good Luck. Let me know how it goes!!
Congrats on finally pulling the trigger.....

GO BOY..................

Congrats on the purchase, post pictures when you get it.

I went Nitto Terra Grappler G2s on our '14 G550 and they've been fantastic. First AT tire I've used but very pleased with how well they ride on pavement. SoCal though so haven't had to deal with snow/ice

How has your MPG changed with the new NITTO's ? What was your original tire?

Any good ideas on wheels?
Its Palladium Silver.
I do not know how the black factory wheels would fair in the Michigan winters with road salt???
I really do not anticipate running the factory wheels, I just do not care for trucks with performance tires.
Perhaps if I lived in Miami or someplace always amazing Id have another viewpoint LOL
I do not want to get into running spacers etc.

OK
Picked it up Sunday, made it from Orlando just N of Atlanta so the G and I spent the night in G, Georgia that is!
I made it home yesterday for dinner and I LOVE it!
My butt was a bit sore after about 1100 miles but no more so than my M3 when I was in it more than a couple hours.
The G is everything I thought it would be and more.

I think many people do not understand the G Wagen. It was not meant to compete with the SUV. The G was meant to be a Jeep or Defender for the refined Gentleman. There was no give when it came to capability but they took a true military truck meant to go anywhere and dropped in a engine to satisfy when on the roads, seats to make it more comfortable than the Jeep or Defender could ever imagine along with all the creature comforts like Bluetooth, amazing sound system, heated and cooled seats etc. That is the G550... The G63 is what happens when one man isn't happy with the norm, in Jeeps these guys change the engine to a V8 (all aftermarket) but the G63 they took a SOLID engine meant for power (unlike the V6 in Jeeps) and said what can we do to tick off the tree huggers even more, what can we do to satisfy the need for an engine growl where a sports car can't go due to the weather or roads?? Well why not make that V8 a twin turbo???
The 4X4 and 6X6 is what happens when that man in the G63's son hit it big with Bitcoin and can really have fun LOL. For now I will smile and LOVE my G63!

The G63 is one of the most misunderstood luxury Off Road Vehicles made... I do not think its an SUV, that's almost like saying a gold medal olympic runner is just a guy who runs.

Consider Forgestars in a custom offset if you want to swap out the factory wheels (or have winter/summer sets). Texas_E63 put a set on his G and they look amazing:

I didn't have a notable change in MPGs going from the stock Hankook Ventus S1s to Nitto Terra Grappler G2s. But I drive relatively few miles and mostly city so I don't pay much attention to MPGs. TireRack might have some good info if you're doing a long commute and want better mileage
