Removing the door panel?

The manual lock button broke off on the driver’s side door of my 2017 G550. The piece that it screws into, is not sticking up out of the hole. In fact, it is not visible.

I still am able to lock and unlock the door electronically, just not manually, which I don’t typically do anyway.

I bought a new button to screw in, on eBay. The Mercedes dealer quoted me $360 to remove the door panel and fish the screw back up through the hole. That seems exorbitant to me.

Is it really that much work to remove the door panel? Can I do it myself pretty easily?

And do I even need the manual button to work, if it still locks and unlocks automatically? In other words, can’t I just leave it broken? Is there any down side?

Its a terrible design flaw. The pin will eventually get stuck down there and cause issues locking the doors so best to get it fished out. I'd have them do it under warranty. And make a habit of turning the doorlock clockwise every once in a while to avoid this issue. You can only remove the caps if the doors are locked and the pins stick like 3mm out of the hole before falling into the abyss. I've managed to fish it out once and attempted to remove door panel. It's trickier than it seems.

I was there today, and they replaced the auxiliary battery under warranty. I did ask if it was covered under warranty. They said no. Maybe I should push a little harder.

Being a 2017 model year isn’t the car still under the four year 50,000 mile warranty? If you are past the 50,000 mile warranty I would think that they would try to get it fixed under Good Will.

It is very well under the 50,000 miles, but the guy at the dealer said that this is not a warranty item.

I would press them. That door lock mechanism should not be considered a wear and tear item. I would demand to speak with the senior service management or with MB district manager. Good luck

I do not see why this would not be covered...tell them you slammed the door and it broke off.
