For people live in places with heavy snow in winter, has anyone applied undercarriage rust protection stuffs to their G? I'm moving to D.C later this year and thinking about doing some rust protection for my G. I've heard rumors about some of these products would actually accelerate the rust because they trap moisture. Is this kind of rust-preventing spray necessary? Did Mercedes do a good job already for undercarriage rust protection? Need help here.
I've thought about doing this but don't know enough. Curious to hear others opinions and experiences. Personally I think if you wash the truck and don't allow salt to settle you should be fine.
Lots of flat spots on the body plus that seal around the windshield. I have to believe that if you keep the undercarriage clean you should be fine. I will admit however, I do try to avoid the rain as much as possible.
It seals the underside of the car and protects it from rust and it retains a kind of tacky feeing so it doesn’t dry and crack. It seems to hold up really well in this country... salted winter roads , rain, snow, rain, rain, rain, rain lol...
Not the greatest picture in the world but the only one he could find on his phone of the finish.
The worst part is the prep. All wheels removed, the whole vehicle masked above ground, the ramp masked, everything in the area masked- it’s super messy but the results are great.
Got my new G63 last year but its too tall for my garage so lives outside. I decided to get it rustproofed straight away given its steel construction so entrusted it to Pro-tect Services in Tingewick (UK).
It was stripped of wheels, arch liners, front and rear scuff plates and undertrays and steam cleaned until totally naked underneath. Merc have done a half decent job in treating the bare metal but its a bit superficial and there were a lot of uncovered bits inside. The guys reckon its still a high quality old school build versus more recent mainstream Mercs but gave it the full works including removing the many grommets and coating the cavities inside the chassis, doors and sills with dinitrol which has a black hard wearing finish etc. Clear heat resistant coating was applied for the shocks, roll bars, exhaust etc.

Very happy with their work.
sounds like a real good job. For such a simple thing as rustproofing the prep is so so time consuming! Removing everything underneath until it’s bare - it’s a nightmare!!!
