M157 Cylinder 5 misfire (factory leaking valve seal) any affected?

Seems not many people that own a G63 frequent forums. Not much data out there on high miles or any surprise repairs?

I see many high mileage G63 at the auction.

While doing research on future potential repairs/general things to look out for, I happened across the GL63 forum I saw a disturbing scenarios from several owners who’ve had a cylinder 5 misfire that turns to a leaking valve seal which requires new cylinder heads. Repairs are $17-$32k.

Never heard of this issue and I’ve been with the m157 platform for a while. I thought the cam bolt problem on the old m156 was bad but this is 10x worse cost wise.

here’s the thread (note it’s about the Gl550 but many gl63 owners have had this issue) https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...re-solved.html

Anybody on the G side seen this? I got a year and half left on my EW. I’ve put maybe 5k miles since I bought my truck last year. It’s most likely going to see even less use in the future as I’ve got other vehicles I use

the reason I went on the GL63 forum there was a member who had 271k miles on his GL63 no repairs besides this one cylinder head issue

Hope my G will make it to 271k with just that one issue if any 😁
