Windshield spontaneous crack

Have had my 2019 G63 for around 8 months now (loving it by the way) and read on the forum about people having spontaneous windshield cracks develop. Well after 8 months it's my turn. Drove into office no impacts on windshield as only side roads and not exactly a lot of traffic these days. Came out of office and small crack at bottom edge of passenger side of windshield. Watched as it grew from a few inches to go up the entire windshield over a few minutes. No impact marks on outside of windshield. Really disappointing but didn't surprise me as I had read about it happening to a fair number of people.

I filed a complaint with MB USA. Has anybody gotten anywhere productive with them on replacing windshields for this model??? Any guidance is appreciated.

Put in order for new OEM windshield and as of now it's being put under my insurance. Would obviously prefer for MB to cover the cost as this seems to be a manufacturing defect. Does anybody who has had their windshield replaced have any things I need to watch out for when they do the replacement? I've requested OEM only but beyond that want to make sure it is repaired correctly.

This would have bothered me way more before everything that is going on in the world now. In perspective it's just a windshield but still annoying.

Yikes, another one bites the dust. Are you sure there are no impact marks? Look real close and if you have a pair of readers handy use those.

The new ones do this commonly. Old ones would get rock chips like nothing. it's just the nature of the truck I have chalked it up.

I went to get some "essential:" groceries today, took the RR. Had it parked in the back as I am coming back with my "essential" groceries (its windy) right before my eyes I see a shopping cart heading right towards my truck and BAM slams right into the back door. Left a nice sized ding. But like you said, with all thats going on in the world its just another "ding" and what can you do? Had this happened a month or two ago, I would have been singing a different tune.

Not sure where your located but in NY usually on cars like these the insurance uses OEM glass as there is all sorts of senors/wires/heated/etc. It should also cost you $0 and your rates will not be affected.

Not sure if this will help but i have noticed less rock chips and cracks ever since I started tinting the windshield. Just my two cents.

Good luck

Was the windshield replaced recently, before you bought it? Had something like that happen to my '93 Grand Am, SafeLite replaced my "hot rock" damaged windshield (from driving from Ridgecrest, CA to Clovis, NM), and that following summer, it cracked from the right side, about halfway up, all the way across until it was right in front of my nose, while I was driving to San Diego, on leave. SafeLite had a San Diego technician come to my parent's house and replace it.

Does anyone think that EXOSHIELD would have prevented this? I am convinced on getting my incoming G63 windshield protected but would it actually work to avoid this?

I have read about this on other brands of cars. Explanations have been that the wind shield wasn't properly installed. So with build in tensions, the wind shield eventually cracks.
