Newbie looking for help on pricing...

Hi all.

I have been lurking around here for a while and figured it was time to seek out your advice.

I am looking at purchasing a 2005 G55 AMG Grand Edition with 60,000.

From the pictures, the vehicle looks clean, still need to get some underbody photos, but was wondering what sort of pricing you would assign this.

The seller had it listed at 58k. He is located 5 hours from me. I stated he would have to drop it by at least 10k to motivate me to make the drive to look at it. He was willing to drop the price to 48k.

I am still thinking at 48k, in this economy, he is overpriced. I realize it has low miles and is an AMG, But it looks like I could pickup a 2013+ G500 for about 50k. Yes it would be slower, but it would be 8yrs newer with a nicer refreshed interior.

I am thinking offering 42k?? Your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

What's the interior like? If you like it and you are not that far off on the price don't lose it to someone else for not that much coin.

It does. Needless to say you could make the seller an offer and tell them to get back to you if they change their mind and see if they get back to you in a week or so, and in the meantime continue to look as there may be a better deal out there just waiting for you!

ya, that was my plan, just wanted to know what people thought is a fair price?

Of course as a buyer, the lower the better, but in all honesty, I am just looking for a fair price. Is 42-43k fair?

Also, with an aftermarket head unit, will I lose access to some of the vehicle settings?

I've been searching for three months now, and I say that's overpriced for the market.

Here's a nice example of a one owner G55 on BAT. The interior is pretty nice, some weird pin striping and other things that would need to be addressed, but this thing is clean.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...edes-benz-g55/

I think the sweet spot is ~38k w a lot of digging and patience. I'm actually looking at a pretty modified '03 G55 that's at $38k, which would save me about $12k from the "spreadsheet" build I've put together with me doing all of the work. So I'd save in sweat equity as well.

Seeing from your signature that you're in ND I'd def wait for under carriage images before even putting a number out there, because you'll find yourself doing double negotiations once the seller knows a number you're comfortable at.

If you can also scour the web for G's in California Arizona or any other arid states, as you'll have a prestine underbody that may just be a bit dusty.

Keep us posted.

I'd look at the 2013 for 50K first.

2005 G55K
Good find, but like others have said, it's overpriced at 48k. Even in the previous "everything is going right" market, I think 48k would have been a tall ask.

If the condition all around is actually as good as the photos look (underside, closeups around windows and roof gutters) I think low 40s would be a fair offer, so our 42/43k is most likely fair.

The main question you have to ask yourself is if you want a 2005 G55 or a 2013 G550. Very different trucks overall, different feel, different purpose, one being much newer, etc. Also for that 2013 G500, you can probably negotiate that down lower.

Best of luck in your search!

I am not up on G Wagon prices but do these sell quickly? If so then paying a little more than what someone else would pay could be your best deal if you can afford it and you have not found others that meet your needs.

I am not sure how quick they sell....I would guess right now with the virus stuff going on, things have slowed down.

I can afford it, but it is a slippery slope, especially at the 48k price point. Even if I am looking at paying low 40s for this 05’, for a few thousand more, I could get a 2013+ g550 (None around me, just basing that off of cars.com searches)....tack another 10k on that and I am in the 60s and enter the g63 price ranges.

I am in ND so inventory is always an issue, unless I want a ford, dodge or chevy. This one happens to be relatively close, the milage is nice, but in all honesty, I wish it had 50k more miles on it with a price to reflect it. Then I wouldn’t feel as bad off-roading in it.

I am still waiting on the undercarriage pics. Then I will throw him an offer and see what happens, and perhaps my search may continue.

I just found myself going through a few internal battles for my first G purchase as well.

I want to build an overlander that I can also enjoy around town when I move from LA to Seattle.

I've found some really low mileage G55s most 03/04 models.

Found a really nice 2011 G55 for 44k, but sure the price could be haggled that's down in Florida. Hard part is traveling right now... what does that even look like.

The 2007 G500 I found is black on black, I wanted a Grey model, but the misses likes black, and it would match well w our E63.... Now I'm debating over the supercharged vs not supercharged.

Here's a good video that I found that has me really questioning whether I need the extra HP for off road / camping / etc..

I think it really is about timing right now.

See where the seller for the truck you're looking for comes back to you at, and maybe wait a few weeks to pull the trigger.

I'm probably going to see if I can test drive this G500 this weekend when I'm back home in LA. I'm coming from older Land Rovers and Range Rovers, so I don't really need the extra ponies when I'm sitting on top of traffic.

If I feel good with that truck, I may hold out another 3-4 weeks since I'm on a 6-8 week timetable to make a move to the PNW and just see what people are doing with the strange times we are in with luxury capital (G-Wagons).

Keep us posted, I'll do the same.

I just got My 05 G55k a month or so ago, and during the whole search process of over a year, I was adamant that I had to have the G55k. I was convinced that I had to have the bigger HP car as I thought I would eventually regret it if I didn't.

Now I have no regrets going the route I did, and as much as I do enjoy the supercharged 5.4L and how hilariously quick it gains speed, I'm very confident that I would have been just as happy with a newer 500/550, or even spending less on a similar year/miles/condition G500. I knew I wanted an M113 engine variant for their dependability, so my year was capped to 2012, and I knew I was going to personalize a lot of the cosmetics anyway, thus negating the real need for a newer model year. It really all depends how well the truck was treated, serviced, and the climate it lived in. The year and miles are almost a secondary thought as 2005-2012 barely changed at all and the M113/M113k engines are super reliable.

Also, with a 05 G55, you'll have to deal with the raked stance, stiffer springs, and shocks, etc.

The video was great and that car G55 for 44k sounds great too. It is amazing how hard shipping for these really is. Strange too, some of the pics I see I think the exterior looks great, the. Other wheel, bumper, color options I think look less than ideal.

Good luck with your search, I am just eating on some underbody pics to send the guy an offer, I am not too net koi’s in the meantime as he still has it listed at 58k (lol).

Do you mind me asking the miles and what you paid for yours? If not, I understand, just trying to get as much pricing info as I can.

haha, we sound alike, I always want the top trim, so I don’t purchase a vehicle and regret not getting more power. But like you said, I am sure they are all adequately powered.

I don’t think I will mind the stiffer suspension as I will likely swap it out and give the truck a small lift.

Thanks for the reply.

Market is soft right now, I just sold the wifes 2011 G55 for $40k. Car has higher mileage at 121k but all maintenance with records. I would pay below $40k for the 2005

Found it.

I picked up an 08’ 500 from a gentleman in Denver. No rust, great shape, and some service records. My search is over!

What the *****?!? Not sure why the pic is upside down...sorry.

Edit: so for IPhone I guess the “home button” or what used to be the home button, needs to be on the right when taking a photo. However, I didn’t mind going out to the garage to take another look at it.

Glad you found one! Selenite Gray? I am not sure why pics show up that way but I have not had a problem since whatever they look like when I upload them they show up the same.

Got it fixed. I guess for iPhone you need to take the photo a certain way. Anyway, I believe it is called “flint gray.”

It’s no 550 or AMG, but I am liking my purchase so far as if I got anything nicer I would be scared to take it off-road.

Congrats! The truck looks great. The color looks awesome!

Does it have the M113 or M273?

What size BFG KO2's are on there? They look smaller than the typical 33's but fill up the wheel well really nice and look aggressive. Any rubbing at full lock in either direction?

I believe it is the M113. (It is the G500, not the 550 unfortunately)

Tires are stock size, 265/60 R18. No rubbing, wishing they were a little bigger, but I wi keep them for now. Tires look close to new.

Nice. I feel the M113 is the better engine anyway. Bulletproof design that just starts being broken in at 100k miles. May be less powerful and more of a gas hog, but reliability and ease of maintenance is everything.

Truck looks good with that tire size/design. Almost looks lowered a bit from that angle. I was looking at KO2's in 265/65R18 or 285/60R18 to replace the stock Pirelli Scorpions.
