Ha! This will be another hobby vehicle for me when it arrives so don't feel bad! The Midcity version would look better with a Mercedes Star in the center, and I am sure it costs less than the TopCar version!

That's definitely a nice alternative however I think the fact that it sits off-center would drive me crazy...I'm way too OCD for that

Here are a few other options, and this one has the AMG logo: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBON-REAR...sAAOSwQahesrJT

No logo: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBON-REAR...EAAOSwCUdesrMP

Brabus logo: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBON-REAR...oAAOSw-9lesrGe

Thanks Bob!
I've ordered Topcar painted Iridium silver, will be adding a gloss black Mercedes star on it. I think it will
look very good. Pic to come!

The simplist solutoin on this one is from midcity in Chicago. They have a simple cover piece that replaces the OEM plug. They 3rd print it and have tried a few diffferent plug styles but haven't seen one that I like yet. the topcar version is the cleanest one i've seen other than modifying the door panel which fully eliminates the rear spare option. The topcar/midcity/brabus versinon all let you revert to a spare / OEM look. I've spent way too much time on this project.

I talked to Mid City and this is what I was told about their cover:

Each cover is custom made and is paint matched to the factory color:
The cost for the cover without the MB emblem is $449.00 plus shipping.

The cost for the cover with the MB emblem is $579.00 plus shipping.

FYI, the mid city guys are great. Really passionate about MB and super friendly and willing to answer questions. They really should market that part more on their site. The off center plug just looks a little too raw for me. The TopCar part is really slick and closest to an OEM+ look that doesn't require bodywork. Personally not a fan of brabus or aftermarket exposed carbon looks.

I would have went with Midcity for sure if I could handle the off-center look but unfortunately I can't haha.
Can't wait to see my Topcar piece paint matched and installed. My dealer has an ETA of June 8th so the countdown is on!

Cool, I guess my Platinum build should be here about the same time...nothing from the dealer though.

And for those that might be interested Mid City said the cover will be up on their website soon, with a 10% discount for the military.

Topcar just sent me a pic of my cover that is now complete. Looking forward to getting it on the G as soon as the G arrives early next month!

Did they send you the installation guide? Curious how much disassembly of the rear tire mount is required?

Well here is the back so seems like it has to sit very flush so I'm assuming nothing can be sticking out the rear
however I'm not sure what it looks like when you remove the spare tire. I'm guessing the entire mount needs
to be removed however I have heard it is not very difficult.

I mean personally, I am not a fan. With that said, I would love to open the vault with the spare off and see how much lighter it feels lol.

Vessel has been in Baltimore since last week...I'm just hoping that when it finally
leaves, that the next stop is Halifax but really not sure.

Got mine as well. Haven't unpacked it. Mine is getting installed on Monday next week. Obsidian Black with the silver star. Will post pics when done. Pretty excited to be honest. You do have to disamble the rear door and take apart the spare tire hub assembly. So this needs to be installed water tight.

Hey Drew, please let me know the install process you use to seal it. Topcar just says adhesive and I was going to use industrial strength 2 sided tape but definitely don't want chance of water getting in anywhere.

Thasks!

Stolen Valor! lol. Few more pics for anyone interested. Personally, I'm super happy with the quality of the product and the final fit. The TopCar team was amazing and highly recommend. Still need to give the car a full wash and detail but it totally changes the look / feel of that car visually.

The rear tire assembly comes off really easy. Basically 3 lugs hold the tire. 3 torx screws hold the assembly to the rear door. The first pic shoes the assembly without the tire.

Here is the door with the assembly removed:

Few more pics:

The pics are good but don't really highlight how well it fits the body. It looks very clean overall. No gaps. We ended up using the 3m window sealant so this things isn't going anywhere and if I want to revert to the spare it would require sanding and painting the door. Thought about using 2x stick or some other adhesive but didn't want to risk it. Also my G has ceramic coating and the installer was having issues getting any tape to stick to it!

One other note, the rear door is clearly calibrated to hold the weight of the spare wheel and the door moves more fluidly without the weight of the wheel hanging off it. I may look into it to see if there are adjustments that can be made but overall it's a non-issue and just something to know.

I also secured the OEM MB EU side strips and had those installed at the same time. Happy to be rid of the covered reflectors!

Very happy with the final look of the G on the outside. I'd still like to get the carbon/leather rear door handle for the interior. Need that part#.

Looks good!

Can you share the part numbers for the euro side strips? Thanks!

One could move it to the side if they still wanted to bring it along and retain storage:
