The simplist solutoin on this one is from midcity in Chicago. They have a simple cover piece that replaces the OEM plug. They 3rd print it and have tried a few diffferent plug styles but haven't seen one that I like yet. the topcar version is the cleanest one i've seen other than modifying the door panel which fully eliminates the rear spare option. The topcar/midcity/brabus versinon all let you revert to a spare / OEM look. I've spent way too much time on this project.
Each cover is custom made and is paint matched to the factory color:
The cost for the cover without the MB emblem is $449.00 plus shipping.
The cost for the cover with the MB emblem is $579.00 plus shipping.
Can't wait to see my Topcar piece paint matched and installed. My dealer has an ETA of June 8th so the countdown is on!
And for those that might be interested Mid City said the cover will be up on their website soon, with a 10% discount for the military.

however I'm not sure what it looks like when you remove the spare tire. I'm guessing the entire mount needs
to be removed however I have heard it is not very difficult.
Thasks!
The rear tire assembly comes off really easy. Basically 3 lugs hold the tire. 3 torx screws hold the assembly to the rear door. The first pic shoes the assembly without the tire.
Here is the door with the assembly removed:

One other note, the rear door is clearly calibrated to hold the weight of the spare wheel and the door moves more fluidly without the weight of the wheel hanging off it. I may look into it to see if there are adjustments that can be made but overall it's a non-issue and just something to know.
I also secured the OEM MB EU side strips and had those installed at the same time. Happy to be rid of the covered reflectors!
Very happy with the final look of the G on the outside. I'd still like to get the carbon/leather rear door handle for the interior. Need that part#.
