Black Side Strips on newer G550?

Can someone post a couple close-up pictures of the Black side strip trim on their new G550 (2019+) with the Night Package? I am thinking about getting replacement pieces for the red and amber reflectors and want to be sure I get the correct style - my G550 will not be here for 2-3 weeks thus the request. Thanks!

The pinstripe style strips are exactly the same as on our g350d with night pack. Thanks for the pictures as it was interesting to see that the 500/550 is the same. :-)

I wanted to know since I would love to get rid of the amber and red reflector sections and replace them with the Black ones, but those parts cannot be purchased here in the US. But if someone in Europe would order them for me I would pay them, and for postage here along with extra for the trouble!

Thanks as well Becky and those are the side strips I would love to have on mine! Again, getting rid of the amber and red reflectors is a must for me and I spent a lot of time lately contacting countess ebay sellers that are selling trim but each one has something different than what comes on the G. I was thinking that a Mercedes parts shop in the UK could sell them and I could buy them from someone over there, pay the shipping, and throw in some extra money to account for the time spent.

no problem what so ever.

It looks like you’d need four pieces of trim in order to delete.

I’m not sure at what stage you want to get these but just message and let me know. I can find a price for them and ship etc.

Perfect and yes, just 4 pieces to take the place of the red and amber sections on each side. I sent you a message with my email address and I can send you pictures of the amber and red reflector strips albeit they will look like the ones posted in this thread: No rush whatsoever and it will probably take a while to get them due to the supply chain issues due to the virus. Thanks much and it is nice to see how we can all help each other here when needed!

Great use of the forum! Bexlee you would need to call your dealer and give them your VIN and let them know you'd like to order the replacement parts for those four corners parts. Would be amazing if someone could organize the correct parts #s for the various trim pieces as I'm sure many would benefit!

Indeed Drew, My OH has a bodyshop so sourcing things like this is ‘right up his street’. He’s been trying to call the local MB dealer today and although the receptionist was quick to answer; the parts department was not (skeleton staff issues). He will get on it first thing in the morning as he will probably have much more success early in the day.

Hes going to use our reg/vin as the vehicle in question and hopefully he will be able to get part numbers etc also for reference in the future.

The carbon fibre parts very fancy!

Thanks for the help! I found a few parts place online in the UK but I could not search for parts since I did not have your registration/VIN#. But we'll see what he can find out and again, no rush!

Do the black ones still reflect red/orange, or is the plan to get rid of the colored reflectors entirely?

The plan is to eliminate the amber & red reflectors; however, I guess you could replace what you have with all Black, as long as you can find that molding strip. From what I have been told the strips are different on the G63 and G550/G350d, and each of those models have several strip options. As you can see in the pics posted above we are talking about the strips that are Black with White stripes above and below it,. which is what is used on G550/G350d models with the Night Package option.

It would be nice if they had solid Black ones though without the White stripes!

The mouldings have separate interchangeable inserts as I said, for instance the inserts can be plain black for such as a G63 or with a double pin stripe for our G350d and the North American G550 / G500 models. Makes it easier for the factory having so many differing combinations no doubt. Chromed or matt silver on a standard G, black on the night pack and again on the North American spec with the additional end sections with the amber reflectors.

Sorry if the above text is hard to read ; it’s copied directly from an email and I couldn’t figure out how to change the colour.

This information is directly from a U.K. MB Dealership/ Parts Department.

Here is what you posted and easier to see:

"The mouldings have separate interchangeable inserts as I said, for instance the inserts can be plain black for such as a G63 or with a double pin stripe for our G350d and the North American G550 / G500 models. So, are the part #s in the drawing the ones for the inner trim that is Black with the White Pinstripes?

Looks like you would just need the #95 and #145 for the left & right fender of each and you would only need to replace the inner insert.

Correct, and thanks to you as well for the countless PMs back & forth! I told Becky that I will wait 2 weeks until my G arrives because I want to see how easy (or hard) it is to remove the reflectors and existing inner strips. Another option is to buy the US G550 left & right inner trim for the left & right front doors and cut them to the length of the reflectors and stick those in place; however, buying the entire strip will be a cleaner/OEM look!

It will not be difficult to remove the inner strip or reflector so wouldn't let that delay you. Interesting idea on ordering the middle part and trimming. But I wouldn't just trim the reflector; do the whole section. It will not look clean otherwise. .02c

What do you mean when you say do the whole section? The reflectors are only about 10" long so if I buy the front door piece, which is about 25" long, I would have enough to replace the sections where both reflectors (on 1 side) were by cutting pieces that are the exact length of the reflectors. If I do it right they should butt right up against the cut side and since I will have 2 finished edges on the door piece the finished edges will go at the front (where the amber one was) and at the rear (where the red one was) - make sense?

By the way, anyone know what the inner strips options are for the G550s? We know that with the Night Package they are Black with a White Stripe above and below it and the AMG Package alone had Brushed Aluminum ones. Does the Standard G550 have solid Black ones?

Bob, did you ever solve this?

Did you ever get the UK strips to eliminate the reflectors? That sounds pretty great, would love to see pix!

I want to do the same on my g550... all black, no pinstripe... dealer can order the AMG all black US version, but the small strip between the front and the door has AMG... trying to figure out if there is a G550 version that is all black if anyone knows.

I love the idea of having the reflectors go as well, so maybe UK AMG version is way to go vs g550 night package version.
