Spare Tire Trim Piece loose question

Hi All, I just recently picked up a 2016 G550. It is my first one and I’m still getting used to it.

i put some new tires on it recently and ever since I got it back from the shop the trim piece that covers the spare tire (not the metal ring) is very loose and I have to push it back in every time I drive it.

How is this supposed to be locked in? My wife drove down a dirt road the other day and it was halfway off when she got home. See picture below.

Appreciate the help.

I think there is a bead around the ring that the cover sits under - is the bead missing? Take the ring off, push the cover against the tire and see if you can put the ring over the edge of the cover.

yes the bead is still there. Didn’t know that was supposed to sit under the ring. I put bigger tires on and they must not have adjusted the ring correctly

Isn’t the wheel cover suppose to go under the ring? Maybe the ring needs to be adjusted at the clamp and made tighter so the cover is snug?

Yes, if it is under the bead it will keep it from popping off.

if you have bigger tires on, you might have to run it without the cover because the cover is suppose to sit under the lip of the ring. but i think u might not have sufficient space now with thicker tires.

The cover lip should fit securely under/inside the outer ring that surrounds the tire. The clamp at the bottom of the ring can be clamped tight and you can screw the bolt once latched to really tighten down the ring so the cover part will not slip out. It's actually tricky and second person can help. If the tire is too big and you cannot slip the cover under the ring then you should not keep the cover on there it could easily fall off the back and cause some serious damage to another car, or person.
