2019 G550 Factory Undercoat Bubbling on Diff Cover

I noticed recently that the factory rubberized undercoating is bubbling on my rear differential cover ("pumpkin") on my 2019 G550. It is very soft to the touch, the bubbles collapse when I touch them, and the rubberized undercoating comes-off on my fingers when doing so. Is this normal? I cannot say that I have ever bothered to touch the diff cover since taking delivery in October 2019, but the bubbling is new and rather nasty looking. FWIW, the same material is also quite soft to the touch all along the rear axle and similarly comes-off on my fingers when touched. I assumed that this material was more rigid than it seems to be, and the bubbling is surprising.

i wonder if the material on the diff cover and the axle is the same as the stuff on the frame rail. i jacked up my 2020 G550 recently to swap wheels and my jack was filthy (its kind of greasy, not just dirt). seems like theres some sort of under body coating that covers the frame rails.
