19’ G63 WATER LEAK & DRIVER DOOR HARNESS DEFECT

Picked up my 2019 g63 part of the first US drop in January 2019. Polar white on black/platinum. Coming out of a 2016 maybach v12, I was excited getting into something different. Upon delivery, the truck absolutely met all expectations. Two months in a friend of mine came by to take a look at the new truck. He walked up to the locked truck and went for the driver rear door handle.. voila! The truck opens and the alarm goes off. Instantly I knew I had a problem. So now being the OCD that I am,I check all my door locks and realize all of my door pins were sitting at a different height while in the unlock or lock position. Brought the truck in for service and apparently the faulty rear door lock was already a known default in their system.. the mismatched height of the door pins.. it was a first. They replaced the door lock and the issue was corrected. The tech and I couldn’t figure out why the height of the door pins were off on all 4 doors. Wound up leaving it alone. Fast forward exactly 13 months later. I get in my truck, start it up and go for the memory seat button to my setting. No response. Seat controls .. nothing.. windows, door locks, mirrors ... nothing ... at this point I’m sick to my stomach. My luck.. call my mb tech whom is a good friend of mine. Had him pass by with a computer and multimeter. The car wasn’t reading the driver door. So we think fuse. Check all fuses in both places. Getting power, no blown fuses. My tech decides to pull up the driver side carpet to access the harness that leads to the driver door as well as the dcm. Foam under the carpet is soaked! Mold and mildew forming. WTF! we are now just looking at one another in disbelief. Back to service I go! 27 days later and problem solved. Not only were the pins getting wet one by one but the physical door wiring harness ripped where it sits behind the rubber sleeve. The harness was sitting too taut for its own good and the opening and closing of the driver door slowly ripped the harness into two. They get a new harness in the driver door and all is back to normal. Did numerous water tests but still couldn’t figure out why the foam was soaked and where the water was coming in from. All I’m thinking is how much am I going to get for the truck tomorrow?! Fast forward a week later. The gm of the dealership whom is a good friend of mine said he had a 185k sticker designo night black Magno matte with red guts and a midnight package getting delivered the following morning with no one to it since the person who's allocation it was bailed out due to covid. I wound up selling my 19’ polar white with 8k miles back to the dealership and picked the 20’ up for list.

Just out of curiosity, did you get MSRP for your trade?

Door harness is a known issue - there is a recall on it.
