Larger Tires for 2019 G550
Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a set of five (5) GC01s from 463 Industries for my Matte Black 2019 G550. I've already blacked out all the chrome.
My question is on tires.
I'm looking at two different tires:
1. Nitto Terra Grapper G2
2. BFG KO2s
So my question is two fold.
1. What aggressive tire would you choose if you were going to upgrade from the stock tires?
2. What size would you pick? Stock is a 275/50/20 and 463 Industries recommends a 285/50/20. I'm wondering if anyone has run a 295/50/20 or a 305/50/20
Note: You can't do a XXX/55/20 tire unless your Gwagon is lifted. The 55s rub on a full turn.
Kindly advise. Thanks.

Blacked out chrome? I see lots of chrome on the pic! I am actually doing that myself now...almost done.
The wheel is 8 1/2" right? Check the Tire Rack site since I think you can find out there.

I saw a member a member here did put 33x12.5x20 on his g63, he did add spacers and a little bit of trim. I just picked up my g63 before yesterday, already got a set of new wheels 20x10.5 et23, plus 30mm spacers, Toyo AT3 295/55/20. Goons to put it on as soon as the new TPMS gets here. I think it’s gonna rub, hopefully not much, and I’ll also do some trimming

i have nitto terra grappler 285/50/20 on my G550. no rub at all of course. be aware that by putting bigger tires on your car, your G might start to creep up above 2m in height. so if you go in and out of underground parking with limited height, you might be in trouble. this is why i didnt go with big tire sizes. the older Gs were a little shorter than the 2019+ Gs which make putting bigger tires not such a big compromise.

For Reference:
You'll have to take into account both numbers for tire height and width in seeing if the tire will rub.
The nominal calculations are:
275/50R20 - 30.8 in Tire Diameter - 10.8 in Width
275/55R20 - 31.9 in Tire Diameter - 10.8 in Width
285/50R20 - 31.2 in Tire Diameter - 11.2 in Width
285/55R20 - 32.3 in Tire Diameter - 11.2 in Width
295/50R20 - 31.6 in Tire Diameter - 11.6 in Width
295/55R20 - 32.8 in Tire Diameter - 11.6 in Width
305/50R20 - 32.0 in Tire Diameter - 12.0 in Width
Of course, It's probably par for the course that the KO2's and Nitto's run larger and wider than their stated numerical size.

I have 275/55/20 Ridge Grapplers on my 2020 G63. I have the P-Metric flavor, not the light truck version. The P-Metric aren't quite as tall and also weigh a lot less so I think the ride quality is great. There isn't any rubbing at all and they look and ride great.

You are right about the Adaptive Suspension option on the G550 (I got that). I was thinking he was asking if the suspensions were different between the two years. Sorry.

If the 2020 G63 has 22” rims then the tire size of 295/40r22 has dimensions of 31.3” height and a width of 11.6”. Without a lift using either no spacers or a spacer what is the largest size someone has fitted to the factory wheels?

Standard wheels for the 2020 G63 are 20". Why are people trying to use big wheels and big offroad tires? To be fair I think the stock tires that MB puts on the G Wagon make as much sense as Enzo Ferrari putting mud terrains on a 488.
If you really want to offroad you want smaller wheels and less tire pressure. My guess is that around 32" high is where the rubbing comes in.

As my wife says, there is such a thing as too big. The suspension and wheel wells on the G have been pretty much maxed out by the 20"+ rims that are on them these days. If you want big aggressive tires for off-roading or the look of big, aggressive tires. go with a small wheel diameter (like Hutchinson bead locks) and a tall sidewall. Otherwise, leave well enough alone, IMHO.

I had 22" wheels on my G63. When I realized that I wasn't going to find all terrain tires with a decent sidewall height I bought a set of 20" take-off wheels from a tire shop. The wheels came off a new G550.
