Special Bolts for License Plate

What specialty bolts do you guys use to hold the rear license plate intact? I have a custom plate and frame and had an issue previously where people would steal my frame.

I started using Allen head bolts with nylon lock washers on the back. They're pretty common tools but the chances a thief would have both at the same time and woudl want to take the time to remove all 4 sets of hardware is a stretch. You can also find all kinds of specialty locking head hardware on McMaster-Carr.

Torx Security head is what you want, they have have a pin in the middle of head that keeps a regular Torx from working, you'll need the driver and make sure you get the correct threads. I doubt if a thief would have the driver with him. Get stainless steel so they don't rust.

I would use one-way heads to be honest.

I don’t use frame at all - all my vehicles have minimalist look of California personified vintage yellow over black plates. Got a set of screws with black covers from pep boys, it came with special driver too. Make a trip at similar shop and check it out. Good luck installing it, it’s a bit tricky.
