quick help? '16 G63 brakes/rotors quote

Hi all
Trying to pin down a fair price at the dealer for all four brakes and rotors 2016 CPO G 63. I've got them down to about 2500+ tax is that in the ballyard? I am in New York not the cheapest place on the planet.

You can purchase these parts front and rear if you spend some time searching for less than 1/3 the quote you got.

I have three mechanics all three charge anywhere
from $100-$200 for the full labor job with my parts. This price is valid if I bring them a Honda or a MB. Changing brakes is not rocket science.

These same guys charge me $20-$50 labor if I bring them my own oil and filter for an oil change. The total cost ends up being less than $120.

I am in NYC as well.

I don’t understand people that go to the dealer for servicing. It is a big waste of money and time and 9/10 you’ll gain another problem and or a dent or scratch too. The dealership techs aren’t some guru mechanics they are just as bad if not worse than the jiffy lube dudes. I have several tech friends from across brands and I’ve realized that I know more about certain things than many of these guys. That is somewhat understandable to me as job vs hobby.

CPO? Did you just buy it, and it needs a brake job? If you've owned it several years, why is CPO a factor? What's the odometer? Have you inspected the pads and rotors yourself? Are you experiencing squealing and/or shimmy? New pads and rotors on a 4+ year old vehicle seems premature.

2018 G63
About $980 for the rotors
https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/20...ake_rotor.html

About $50ish for the pads
https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/20...e_pad_set.html

About $45ish for new sensors
https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2016/mercedes/g63_amg/brake/brake_pad_sensor.html

About $30ish for new hardware

https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/20...dware_kit.html

There will be some odd and end of course you will pay for. Does their brake service include a brake system flush? This is about $250ish at a independent service place.

Mercedes OEM rotors for comparison...

I bought a CPO about a year ago.
it's my wife's vehicle so I'm extra careful with things like brake maintenance. I can't afford to skimp on safety upkeep. However I did inquire as to why I would need this service after only 6000 miles from when I bought it and 28K on the clock right now.
We live in a hilly area and I'm sure my wife presses the brakes more than I would down a few of these roads but shes not that bad and uses the gearbox to brake too.
I was at 22K on purchase with a 10/7.5 mm.
they claim CPO min requirement is only 4mm Certainly sounds skimpy. They told me it's 2mm away from flashing the pad warning. I can use these posts as ammo to beat them up a little more before I pick the car up I've done business there before. thank you.

its perfectly fine to wait until the light comes on. That’s why it’s there. You may get another year out of those brakes, maybe more.

Unless the rotors are warped (car shimmies when braking) or scored, they don't require replacement just because you're installing new pads. Most auto stores can machine the rotors if only a bit warped or scored for much less $$ than a set of new ones cost. Pad replacement is not difficult. Usually breaking the caliper mounting bolts free is the tough part. I'm not an expert mechanic, but brake pad replacement is a service I've done at least 5 times, and it usually takes only half a day (unless you have the rotors machined). But choose your mechanic(s) carefully. Brake jobs are easy sells and profitable to shops trying to stay busy.

Can anyone point me toward the retailer that has the cheapest genuine OEM brake parts? I need to do all four corners and I've been quoted some outrageous prices.

Thanks in advance.

The usual suspects are autohausaz, pelican parts and fcpeuro (all online)

I'm comfortable doing brake jobs on my cars. Recently did a full rotor and pad replacement for a SL500 and S500.

To the rest of us that wrench on our own cars, how difficult or challenging is it to do the brakes on a G63?

Quick update. I purchased the front and rear rotors from Mercedes Benz parts along with the pad sensors (one for each corner). Ironically they were the cheapest retailer. I got the pads directly from brembo. Saved some money there. I just need to know what the hardware consists off so that I can secure that. Does anyone have any insight?
