Similarities with a much cheaper car....
My 10 yr old daughter who is not into cars at all asked me what I was getting as my next car. We were driving and a G happened to roll by. I pointed it out to her and her instant reaction was: “you are getting a jeep?”
Its been bothering me since then... Atleast externally, both cars do look similar with the wheel arch flares and the round headlights etc. Does anyone else feel bothered by this?

Not bothered--the only way they look the same is from afar with the DRL.
Now my Range Rover Sport and the Explorer--that's a bother lol. Yes I know the same guy designed both and the Explorer came out first

Try driving a Jeep for an extended period of time. I think you'll get the point. Doesn't come close to the G experience. Since acquiring a MY '20 G I've noticed that I rarely drive my other cars any more. Hmmm. Happy motoring.

Indirectly related, I remember a thread on a Ferrari forum where more than one person stated that people ask "Is that the new Mustang?" It goes to show that non-car people will not notice the difference between vastly different cars.

My friend at work refers to my G as a Jeep...
“How come you aren’t in the Jeep today?” “What do you think to your new Jeep?’” Etc..: I never correct him - I simply answer as if he said G ; not Jeep.
I can’t see the resemblance myself but I do think some people refer to 4x4’s in general as ‘Jeeps’ .

The only people who calls the G a Jeep are surely not a car person, ignorance is bliss. They don’t mean to offend... I’m not worried about it but I do correct them.

I have never had anyone mistake my G for a Jeep, although I have had plenty of people ask what it was. Interestingly, the the during the Daimler-Chrysler era, some Jeep models were built with MB components. Nowadays Jeeps can be Fiats!

The only thing I've heard my truck mistaken is by kids. I've got quite a few "wow is that a monster truck" from little boys and girls.
The last time my wife was with me and we were cruising around and a little girl was with her dad and said Look dad a monster truck like yours. Not sure what the dad had, but he had a smile on his face.
Who cares if people mistake it, as long as you're getting your smiles per gallon.
I haven't driven my g55 in about a week as Im waiting for a new secondary air pump, but once Its in I'm going to be doing some sunday driving for sure.

This should only bother you if you bought the G Wagon to be a status symbol or display of wealth. In that case, then it would make sense to be upset that someone mistook your $180K Mercedes for a $35K Jeep.

Not sure why this would bother you unless you are buying a G wagon just as a status symbol? Personally, I couldn't care less. On a related note, my garage in my apartment building has only valet parking because of the tight turns and whenever I call down to get my car, most of the time i tell them to bring me my porsche jeep (macan) or mercedes jeep lol. Could be because I had a wrangler there previously...
