2004 G500 making strange knocking noise near exhaust at stoplights
Hey guys,
New G500 owner here. I have a 2004 G500 with 192k. I have been driving around this vehicle for about 2 weeks, and suddenly I heard a pretty loud knocking noise coming from somewhere near the rear driver wheel well. This noise is not consistent at all, I actually left it with my mechanic for a few days and had him drive it home, he didn’t hear it once. Now randomly I’ll be at a stoplight or in a parking lot and hear this random knocking noise until I drive off, then it goes away.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I've always wondered how these screws randomly go missing and always blame the techs for not putting them back.. lol but I guess road vibrations make them fall out over time

Yes, check the exhaust shield as posted above. Mine loosened up when the nuts fell off, but it created more of a rattling sound than a knocking sound. Also check where the exhaust passes through the frame from side to side. If something has corroded and come loose it can knock against the frame.
