Are the sunroofs as bad as I hear?
Hello,
I picked up a 2003 G500 with 120k miles, in incredible condition. Everything works great, including the sunroof.
I was recently told by a shop that specializes in bodywork and other repairs for the G Wagon platform never to use the sunroof. That they fail and when they do it's a nightmare to repair and not worth it.
Turns out I love using the sunroof, nothing feels greater than cruising with the sun and breeze on your face from above. If what was said is true, I can avoid using it, but wanted to hear from the forums and get your take or experiences on this.

Here is the dance my sunroof does and even a reset and relearn process hasnt helped.
Goes back half and stops
Click again opens
Go to close stops half way
Then won't close
Have to click tilt and then it close and open tilt
Then won't close
Have to click to open will close and start to open
So to get it close to keep water out have to just play with it.

Lol, I’ve owned my SUV for four years now; I’ve never opened mine.
I’ve never opened the sunroof on my other two vehicles, either.
The other car, I deleted the sunroof option, lol... YMMV.
cheers/B

Same here - have had them on every vehicle I've owned since the mid-80's, and can't remember ever opening one. Takes only one bird flyover to ruin the back to nature experience (lol).
