G63 2017
Would you buy this G65 (Trade G63)?

Hi Guys,

I have a 2017 G63 Brabus edition (exterior, not engine) with 54k miles (CB interior, magno matte black, red diamond stitching, 22inch wheels with 33 inch Toto Open Country AT3s 10 plys, smoked out and wrapped everything). Would you trade for the below G65? It would be an 8k delta. I always wanted a G65 but the smaller screen (can upgrade to android), piano black interior, chrome, and back up camera is off putting.

Thoughts?

Buy it. So much torque that ride will pin you into the seat. I'm a big fan of everything about it including the colors. I've had many black vehicles and I don't have issues with them. When polished, there is no other color that looks as good. I dig the deep wet black look at night. As you may know, there is a white one for sale too.

You should post some pics of your ride sounds sweet. I also have a mango black with brabus accessories.

and I would do the trade. I believe sometime
in the future a g65 would retain excellent value as being a v12 g wagon over a normal g63.

you can also keep your wheels and buy again or swap the accessories from your g63 to your g65

Buy and swap current parts over. A closer to stock vehicle is easier to sell. Lastly as stated a V12 G will be worth more in the coming years vs the more common 63s.

under $130k I think its a steal - the fuel consumption is to consider, too - far less milage compared to the V8

Nothing quite like a V12. After having a few G63s and then a couple G65s, if I was buying pre-'19 I'd go G65 all the time. That being said, you have a lot of money in aftermarket stuff on your current G63. I'm not sure you are ahead that much with the V12, and you are getting a smaller screen (and the back up camera improved for '17+). Residual value on the V12 might be better long term (which is funny, because a few years ago the bottom dropped out of the G65 and then it has rebounded to be stronger than the G63).

Tough call. Do you have the 800HP tune on your current G63? There is definitley a difference in a tuned G63 and tuned V12. I've had a 700HP G63 and a 700HP G65. The G65 motor was decidely more enjoyable, but it's hard to articulate why. More torque, more of a kick in the pants, silky smooth. If your current G63 was more of a stock unit and miles and years were similar I'd probably consider the trade you are considering. With the aftermarket stuff on the G63 I'd be more hesitant to jump ship.

Not sure I've added much to the discussion, but having had both I thought I would share my thoughts. I will say that I think $130K for 60K mile '16 G65 is a bit steep. I know the market has changed quite a bit, but I was buying under 15K mile G65s two years ago for $115-$120K. There are a couple of lower mile 2017 G65s that are asking $160K, but they have been sitting for quite awhile on the market. You might try a $140K offer on one of those before jumping on this one.

We had a 2014 G63 a while ago which we traded in for a 2020 G63, sold the 2020, and recently bought a 2017 G65 with 25K miles. My wife and I both love the G65. They both have a completely different character, but the G65 is so much smoother all around (power delivery, ride) and while it is quieter, I do like the exhaust note. Agree with previous comments that $130K for a 2016 G65 is high.

Nice g63

If you are trading your g63 I’m sure they are giving you a much higher price for trade in than you bought it for? The price at 140k is quite steep I didn’t see the price originally when I posted. It’s crazy a few years ago you could find a G65 for sub 100k without trying.

This is interesting, you’re the first person I’ve known that’s gone to the previous G. As a 2011 owner myself, I’m interested in your overall thoughts on the pre 2019 models in comparison after having both. If we can keep it 63 vs 63 that would be best, but if you only owned a 65 previous that’ll work too.

The pre-2019s are very truck-like and I wouldn't call them luxurious. They're solid-axle trucks and they feel like it (mostly), but I like the squarish design better than the 2019+s. The 2019+s are just so much better to drive and usable daily than the earlier ones, but we just hated the infotainment system and UI and how you had to go through a bunch of menus and such. We've got a new G63 on order again though and are on the list for the EQG; hopefully there will be a better UX by the time we get ours.

Thank you. That makes sense. I’ve been in a couple new G’s owned by friends of mine (550 & 63) and they’re definitely close to a Range Rover in comfort.

I sold my LX570 for this G last month and it’s completely different, but I’m learning to enjoy the “character”. The only thing I don’t love is how the steering wheel seems to follow the road randomly and I’m constantly straightening it out. Might look into an alignment and see if I can improve it a bit. Otherwise the door sound, driving position, visibility, height etc are just intoxicating.

i also kind of prefer the previous box shape as well; though that might be bank account bias

I agree with you on the new ones being better drivers, but I have the opposite feeling on the UI and infotainment. I feel like the old system required more clicking through menus to get what you want than the new one. The new one has some short cuts you can thumb through on the steering wheel mousepad that make it easier to use in my opinion. However, I do get very annoyed when I accidently scroll through something on the mousepad when I'm turning or accidentally hit it. I could do without that!

Are you looking for a comparison in pre-19 G63 to pre-19 G65? Or pre-19 G63 to post-19 G63?

Maybe, but my wife and I could never get used to the system on our 2020. Now back with the 2017, we just plug in our phones and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay just works. And the other big thing is having actual physical buttons to move between functions (Radio, Nav, etc.). The shortcuts on the new one never worked as well as it should've.
