How to remove EIS module?

Hello all,

I have an intermittent starting issue where I turn the key into the spring loaded position and the starter does not crank. I suspect the EIS board needs to be resoldered. What is the easiest way to access this part?

If the accessories and instrument panel activate when you have the no crank condition, the EIS is successfully validating the key with the ECU via the CAN bus, so you may have an issue with the starter motor/solenoid/relay rather that the EIS itself. I believe also that the EIS module is of SMD multi-layer board construction so "re-soldering" is not trivial and will require the appropriate equipment. Before you make a potentially expensive mistake, find someone with a STAR system and check the status of things. It's very cheap compared with the cost of replacing what will be needed if you accidentally damage the EIS.

Hmm. I replaced the starter and starter relay with OEM parts from the dealer 2 weeks ago. Bought a new key from dealer as well. It cranks much faster now when it cranks at all, but the no crank issue remains.

I went to an indy shop with an Autel Maxisys scanner and they couldn't fix the problem. They said circuit 50 is not switching but don't know why. According to this video it means implausible park signal or DAS module communication issue.

There are four error codes:
B1315-009 (Airbag) Passenger occupancy sensor faulty
B1003 (Front SAM) Heating water circulation pump open/short circuit
B1054 (Rear SAM) Left stop lamp open/short circuit
B1207 (Front right door control module) Switch lamp short circuit

I'll take it to the dealership for diagnosis as I cant find anyone with a STAR diagnostic tool that's available this month.

Some additional thoughts.

The front SAM is notoriously prone to water damage from leakage around the wiper bushings. Drop the SAM and inspect it for signs of water damage/corrosion.

It is common for fluids to get spilled into the transmission shift module on the center console. This could give rise to an "implausible park signal" error. You may be able to pull it and clean things out if there are signs of foreign fluids (Starbucks lattes, Mickey D's Coca-Cola, Scotch, whatever), but often, the damage is done.

Dropped the front SAM when I replaced the relay. Didn't notice any water damage, but do you have any suggestions to prevent that from happening in the future?

I fiddled with the shift interlock cable and it starts every time now! If the issue comes back I'll try cleaning the connectors with Deoxit.

Glad it turned out to be a simple fix. And a little cleaning with the appropriate agent wouldn't hurt in the future.

The water/SAM issue is fairly easy. There are rubber washers/gaskets on each wiper hub where they come through the body. Replace them every few years and make sure the hub nut is tight.

That's why I love forums. I had messed with that cable before, but since the problem returned I assumed it was the EIS.

Would you happen to know the p/n for those washers?

Unfortunately my EPC subscription has lapsed, so I can't look it up. Most of the time I see places sell a "kit" which includes the washers/seals and new nuts.

Hello, I have the same issue you were having. I even have the same error codes when i scan the car.

Can you elaborate on what you did with the shift interlock cable to make the issue go away? Thanks!

The problem never went away. I’ve been driving with this intermittent issue for the past 5 years LOL. It gets worse during freezing temps. I think it might be the conductor plate.
