largest tire size on 21" rim (OEM settings G63amg)

hello,

Any idea if on the factory settings and 21" rim that comes with the 2021 G63 AMG will a 315/40/21 tire fit with no rubbing ?
The car comes with a 285/45/21 tire

in overall size the 315/40 tire is a little smaller than the 282/45, but a lot wider ...
I cant test without paying full price for the 315/40 set, so any advice would be appreciated

(what would be the widest tire to fit in the 21" oem rim? - found also a 325/40/21 tire)

regards,

If you were looking to put 315/40/21 tires on the stock 21" rims, I think it won't fit. Looks like 315/40/21 requires at least a 10.5" wide wheel whereas the stock 21" wheel is 10" wide. If you go aftermarket wheels, I believe you can go wider and if you do a wide body kit on to of that, you should be able to go even wider.

Was aiming to get the Michelin Pilot sport 4 315/40/21, didn`t even think it would need a 10.5 wide rim, thank you for the tip.
Looking now on tiresize.com, they say both the 315/40/21 and 285/45/21 tire need a 10.5 wide wheel...

I do like the stock 21 rim, but the 285/45/21 stock tire leaves too much space and it looks small... what larger tire would fit the 21 wheel and get no rub ?

Probably 295/40/21 might be the widest you can do with the stock rims

those are a lot smaller than the stock tires (2.6%) and just a very little more wider, not really what i`m looking for.

must admit I regret not ordering the 22" from the start, it seems i`m stuck with the oem 285/45/21 tire for the moment.

You are pretty much limited if you want to keep your stock 21" wheels. Also, if you are looking to decrease the wheel gap between your wheel and the fender, you can't go with bigger overall diameter tires. You would need to lower your truck since changing the overall rolling diameter more than 3% will screw up the handling dynamics unless you are able to reprogram the computer to recognize the larger diameter. My summer tires are 295/30/24 front 355/25/24 rears. That's only a 0.3% difference in overall diameter from the stock 285/45/21 size so it won't mess with the 4 wheel drive and antilock braking systems. The trade-off of going to 24's is a much shorter sidewall so have to be more careful with curbs and pot wholes.

after more research, it looks that however i put it, the 21" is by far the worst stock rim choice I could have made.

Even de 20" wheel can handle with no rub a 305/50/20 tire (not 100% if the rim is wide enough though), that is actually taller and wider than my 285/45/21. Also with the the 21" rim it really seems you are limited to the 285 tire as there are very few tires that come for 21" rims.

thank you once again for all your tips

I read that G550 has a little more wheel room than the G63 but if you get no rub at all i`m willing to buy the tires and test how it goes

Don't know yet. Still waiting for them haha. Was told it will be ready by summer. Was told lead times on the 3-piece AnRky wheels was about 6 months. 22" 2-piece winter set has a 2-3 month lead time so hopefully I should have those soon.

based on the math, 315/40R21 approximates the factory height of 275/40R20. So in theory and it looks like on the 550, it works without problems

Can you post a nice pan out photo of your G with the wheels and tires?
