Cant play personally burnt CDs in my 2004 G500

I am able to play commercially burnt CDs no problem. But when I use my own CD-R I have a read error. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

What kind of files are on the CD-R? Man, it's been so long. I think that you have to "close" the CD after you burn it. I forget what the phrase is. Let me check. Haha.

I'll check about a close feature. I'm pretty young so I'm not well versed in CDs.

Could be the recording format on your copied CD. Check the file format compatibility of your car's player (*.mp3, *.wav, etc.), and make sure the CD you burn from the original is being copied in a format that will play. The CD burner I have also has some procedure called "finalize" that has to be executed at the end of burning. No idea what this actually does, but without doing this, the copied CD won't play on any player. Also, some CDs have a copy protection format that prevent burning (or at least makes it a bit difficult). I've used a free PC app called fre:ac (www.freac.org) to rip and burn CDs, and it works really well (better than my CD burner).

CDs were an audio industry game changer when introduced in the early '80's -- now they're obsolete.

Thank you for replying. I feel like I definitely messed up since the only computer I have with a CD drive is running Linux. And I had to use some weird software to burn it. There was also no finalize option. I'll check out fre:ac later today with my friend's USB CD drive that I can plug in to my computer and try.

SOLVED: For anyone with this issue you must convert to WAV before burning music. Here is a great tutorial on how to do so:
