Need some advice on a 2014 G63 which has a burning smell after journeys
Hello all! I've been a long time member of many forums but I finally have reason to join an MB forum, as I have added a G63 AMG to my fleet recently.
The car is a 2015 G63 with 60k miles.
I got it about 4 months ago and picked it up in Texas and drove it home to Colorado. I wasn't very impressed with the handling initially but after a new set of tires and tracking it was good to drive.
Recently though I notice a rather pungent burning smell when I get out of it after a drive. It smells like burning plastic / brakes / clutch; I can't really tell which.
Does this car have a clutch? I always assumed it would have a TC. Even if it did have a clutch, I haven't noticed any slipping and I don't think a burning smell would be the first indicator.
Could it be brakes? Acceleration doesn't seem off and they have been fine during the 2000 miles I've put on since getting it.
Hopefully it's not too serious. I can't detect any performance issues - it's just the putrid smell which has me worried!

It could be cosmoline... my C63 would have a lovely such smell after track events....our 63 had some as well ..... hopefully that's it. Any CO peeps have a good indy to suggest ? OP - might help to post area you are in...

It didn't use to smell after driving and it has over 60k on it so I'm not sure if that alters the possibility of it being a sealant.
I'm in Aspen and I think the closest independent would be in Denver.
Can anyone comment about the gearbox in this car? Is it a torque converter or does it use a clutch?

Depends on the smell. As said, above, no clutch in the G at least not between the engine and transmission. Inside of the transmission, though there are several clutches that handle the gear ratios. Depends on the type of burning smell. Below is a link that narrows it down some more. Have you looked under the car? I had a burning smell once, because a plastic bag got caught on the exhaust.

+1 on a plastic bag! I had a very strong burning plastic smell after driving. Brought it to the dealer and they found a bag melted on the exhaust. Offered to clean it off for $300, I declined and the smell went away on it's own after a couple of weeks.
